I dont remember which thread it was but, someone here mentioned being a fanatic about the James Garner tv show: Maverick (see images below if you arent keen on what it was? Anyway, the heads up I wanted to tell you all about is to check your local Wally Worlds (aka) Wal Marts, because, I just saw Seasons 1 & 2 for sale. Both seasons price combined, will be less than $30 including tax. I just picked up season 1--heading back Monday for season 2.

I must watched 3 episodes of Maverick on my TV a few minutes ago. I just have an antenna because I am S&W poor so I can't afford pay tv. Channel 4.2 I believe.

Ive only seen a few color episodes, so I was wondering what is thought of for the earlies? Ive never seen any with Roger Moore in them and was wondering how they could justify )not that I care since I enjoy his acting) having a British guy in the series? Im holding off watching the first season till I get the 2nd--in a day or so.

Maverick airs OIA and on cable here in Houston on a daily basis on the COZI TV network. In fact an episode is on now. I believe the Roger Moore character (Boe?) was the product of Pappy Maverick's dalliances in England.

I probably liked James Garner better than I liked the show itself.
Brits out west- there were a number of them in the old West.
They typically used family money and bought ranches. They were known as ''remittance men'. One well known one was John Tunstall, Billy the Kids boss in Lincoln County, NM. Don't know if any of them were lawmen/gun fighters.

Makes sense. Ive never seen any early episodes and barely remember seeing any at all. I do remember seeing a couple when that brought back Maverick--though briefly--back in late 7-s or early 80s.

Yeah. It was 1000. I just saw it yesterday. It has those 2 sloppy holes in it from the pin.:)

For those that have to know the answer, Beau Maverick (Rodger Moore) was Brett and Bart Maverick's cousin, the son of Pappy Maverick's brother. At least according to what I'm watching now.

Between Maverick and Rockford Files, that's enough Garner to keep me happy for years.

He also did an all too short-lived tv series - which I thought was a great show) called: Man of the People-which lasted 10 episodes. It was a comedy and I thought it was very good. I remember the theme was the song: Rescue Me.

I enjoyed watching that show when it was in production. Always like James Garner in anything he was ever in. Gotta say though that Roger Moore looked about as western as Prince Charles in that twerpy hat and those frilly cuffs coming out of his coat sleeves. He don't belong in no westerns IMHO.

I'd also like to mention for the benefit of those that may not be aware that there was a Maverick movie made in 1994. It starred Mel Gibson in the title role with James Garner playing the Marshal. It is a great comedy adventure with a terrific cast including: Jodi Foster, James Coburn, Alfred Molina, Margo Kidder, and Gram Green with walk ons by several old timey western stars and musicians including, Doug McClure, Clint Black, James Drury and others that I can picture but can think of the name just this moment. I just dug out the VHS tape and will watch it tonight. ;)

And While I'm thinking about James Garner I recall that he was aways a class act and a real gentleman. He was also a very versatile actor and could play any character and play it well. Action Comedy. Like Rockford or Maverick, straight comedy like My Fellow Americans with Jack Lemmon and a lot of those silly chick-flic comedies from the '60s to the dark and Brooding portrayal of Woodrow Call in Lonesome Dove; The Streets of Lorado. His portrayal of Call was right up there with Duval's and just about what you'd expect Call to be like at that age. Very few people be they actors or behind the scenes types have given as much quality entertainment to the world and Mr. Garner or done so with as much class and dignity.

I loved the movie too, the cast and extras--unbeatable. Had steve McQueen lived? he would have been a perfect addition

I still need the DvD and think ill order it this weekend.
