I ordered a new Spyderco Manbug Salt Rescue knife from Midway USA on August 23rd. I did not need it, but I noticed it online during a quick sale and realized I'd never be able to buy a new one cheaper than right then, and I had been wanting one.
I received rapid email confirmation of the order and then shipment via UPS/USPS hybrid shipment. Final delivery by USPS was scheduled for Tuesday 8/29. I am patient and free shipping was part of my calculation and reasoning to justify the purchase in the first place.
I followed the shipment online as a bit of a storm moved into my area. The tracking system basically stopped with UPS saying they had notified and had given the shipment to USPS and the USPS saying they had been notified of the shipment but were not in receipt of it. This came about at the time of a significant weather event moving into the greater southeast Texas region, and I just hoped wherever that little knife was it was secure and would find it's way to me.
Yesterday I started to gather the details, because I knew my credit card statement is forthcoming this weekend. I was planning to contact Midway with the facts and dispute the bill if needed.
Early this morning I noticed UPS now showed package delivered. Then I started to get emails from the USPS detailing the packages progress for the final steps to my home. It arrived after lunch. Deliveries get delayed for good reasons at times.
During Harvey I chose to carry a fully serrated Spyderco Endura 4 and a Spyderco Ladybug Salt Hawkbill key-chain knife. These are get down and dirty cutting tools. I've got a key-ring for the new Manbug, but I'm not sure if I should put keys or a beer bottle opener on the ring.
I buy and use the knives I like, not necessarily the best knives out there, but I have my reasons.
