I just read Bersa is going to be making 1911's in the US. They are going to be selling for approx $1,000.

IMHO the 1911 market is heading the way of the AR market...

With Tisas making excellent quality 1911s at street prices under $600, if you're going to make a $1000 1911 without the magic pony on the side, it better be pretty special.

And that's not something I'd expect from Bersa...

I looked it up, the Bersa made 1911 all appear to be made with stainless steel slides and receivers, many being Cerakoted to give them color. Tisas are carbon steel that is either Cerakoted or plated. Stainless is harder to machine, but is more corrosion resistant than carbon steel, so there is a market and most new stainless 1911's carry a price tag of around $900 or more these days.

Bersa makes a nice, reliable and inexpensive (cheap) .380. I've always heard good things about them.
But a 1911? And at that price? Good luck Bubba.

Next thing ya know, they'll be making ARs. ;)

Not for me at that price, but worth pointing out that a checkered front strap is not usually something you see at that price point.

That said, I picked up a S.A. Garrison 5" blued for about $700, and for that price it is shockingly high quality. Tough competition out there (and I haven't even handled a Tisas yet, but all the reviews can't be wrong). Good luck Bersa.

I was given a Bersa 9mm by a friend before he passed away. I was very impressed with how smooth the slide frame fit was, it was almost ... silky.

Looking at the pic I see it has an ambi safety- so that would be a deal-breaker for me. Not terribly attractive either.

Boy things have come a long way with 1911s though. Back in the 80s there weren't very many options, now everyone makes one. I made on in my garage on the ghost gunner a few years back; should really finish that up someday.
