A pair of aces

Good story, thanks for sharing. I have a Model 66 in 2 1/2 inch I sometimes carry. I also have 19s in 2 1/2 nickle and blued 4 inch. I'm still looking for a nice blued 19 in 2 1/2 inch.

I was thinking about this subject this morning. It made me remember a police officer friend from back in the revolver days. He was always a bit of a dude in general, the high-polish type, and unusual in that he was not really a "gun man," but nonetheless was a very good shot. His hobby was photography. One day I happened to meet him on the street downtown and noticed his revolver in his holster. The gap you would see between stocks and grip frame if you put target stocks on a round-butt gun was obvious. Sure enough, he had a very pretty, new set of smooth target stocks on the round-butt, nickel 2-1/2" Model 19 in his holster. As I am no fan of the 2-1/2" gun in general, I said, "What's that all about?" His reply was that the 2-1/2" gun got clear of the holster faster. :D

I'm old enough that the most recent gun I purchased was a revolver. Got a bunch of new-fangled stuff like Glocks and SIG's that I generally carry though.

When I took my carry class many years ago, I did it with a blued, 2 1/2" Model 19. I'd happily carry that one today, however, my daughter claimed it as hers when she was about 12, then picked out a pair of ivory stocks for it. Since then, it has been a safe-queen, waiting on her to turn 21. It will be part of her birthday present from Daddy, the other half is her carry permit.

As for the difference between the 19/66 and a 586/686, there is more than the 1/4 pound weight to make a decision on. I have a Performance Center L-Comp which is basically a tuned 586+ with a 3" barrel. I can detect the additional weight. I also notice that using the same holster (both have Don Hume belt slides) the L-frame is just enough bigger that the corner of the rear sight scrapes the inside of my arm as I walk. It is also a bit harder to conceal if you care about not printing. I live in Tennessee, own my business, and really don't care if I print.

If I were not on the way to practice for an upcoming match, this thread would make me carry a revolver today. You really can't go wrong with a quality wheelgun.

I have a short M19 and an M66.
Also have a two-inch M15.

The M15 feels just enough different/livelier that I shoot it more than either .357. I have ended up carrying it more too.
In winter it is sometimes my coat pocket gun backed up by a J-frame in my pants pocket.

Really hard to beat a 3" Model 13 round butt. In my mind it is about as close to a perfect carry gun as you're likely to get.
