The 686-5 I bought used was spitting .357 bits so I sent it in for a checkup. They wrote that they replaced the extractor but it was a vague description. Makes sense if it was worn the timing could be off.

I fired some factory .357 and no spitting, and .38 was doing nicely too. At first the trigger was "sticking," like the trigger stop screw was out too far, but not every chamber. Then it wore in, I guess, for smooth sailing.
