A proper set of stainless Kit guns.

Greetings and Happy New year to my fellow Forum Friends.

After scouring the interweb for a long time now I finally found
that wonderful grail Stainless Kit Gun, the model 631.

It joins my model 63 and the 651 for the ultimate trifecta
of Stainless Kit Guns.
The Model 60-10 in 357 Magnum , although it is a 3 inch barrel
should be considered as a candidate for kit gun status.

The other two are the 317 three inch and the 337 in 38 Special.

Altogether a fine bunch of small 'Kit' or trail guns .





























The 651 in 22 Magnum .













The 63 , 22 Long Rifle .




































The 60 -10 A power house of a J frame.

About 5 years ago the 3" 60-10 became my "Kit Gun".

I have a pair of 4" 34s one round butt an one square......that will go to the Boys.......but

....... the 60 can handle shot shells, wadcutters, .38s, +P ( it's GP load) and even .357s in a pinch or for "backup".......hard to beat ...... adjustable sights ........ my go everywhere; do anything........ "micro-686"

May I humbly propose adding a 5" Model 60 dash what ever they are. I don't have time to dig mine out to check its dash #. They're not too hard to find. If you don't like the long bore similar 3" 63s were also built on the magnum J frame.

If you want a real challenge old 5" and 6" 63s exist.

I don't see a use for them other than as an under study for .38 snubs but an older 2" 63 would also snuggle right into your line up.

To the OP - thanks for sharing your beautiful kit guns. I too collect them; started out with the Pre & Model 34 (nickel & blue), 1955 22/32 Airweight Pre Model 43, & Model 51.
My only stainless steel is the Model 63. Take a look.

Pretty sure its the dash 18. Unfortunately, S&W doesn't seem to show dash numbers on their website.

I wish S&W would have made a 4 inch .38 Special Kit Gun. I would buy one. I would have enjoyed the continuity of the thread.

I have a 4-1/4 inch .32 Regulation Police that I almost made into a .32 Kit Gun. I bought a J frame Kit Gun rear adjustable sight and was shopping for a gunsmith to add sights to the R.P. when the Model 631 was introduced, so the originality of the nice old gun was preserved.

I have Pachmayr rubber stocks on my Models 631, 63 and 651. They are the Compacs, and they produced them to fit the square butt J frame but had the outer dimensions of the round butt J frame stocks, which is both, well, compact and fits my hand perfectly. I carry them in a Triple K brand thumb-break leather holster, which looks like a Safariland 29 or Bianchi 5BH.

These Kit Guns can be worn on your belt endlessly without burden. Very handy, useful shooters.

It's a shame you live too far away for a mutual admiration meeting! Congratulations on acquiring your M631. I got mine new when they were still in production as a magnum companion to my no dash M63. It's the revolver that started my love affair with the 32 Mag. It's also responsible for the combat stocks on the M63 as well as several other S&W's. The M60-15 Pro is the super magnum of the trio.

That's a great looking collection! I love the stainless kit guns but I think your 337 is most interesting. I didn't know they made one in that configuration.

My only stainless kit gun is the 60-4 and I love it. I'd like to add a current model 63-5 because it's the same size & weight as the 60-4.

Yes, alloy frame (Sc I think) and Ti cylinder, very light and handy.

I see a 2" 63 and 651, a 5" 63-4, and a current 3" 63-5 for completeness .
