I have a Lee ladle pot and am considering adding a PID. Looking on Amazon and EBay there are hundreds listed anywhere from $13 on up. Some come as kits with thermocouples, relays, best sinks.
I'm figuring a 100mm thermocouple would get the probe into the melt.
Many of the PIDs say they are for temps up to 400° C, which is right on the edge of where I'd like it to read.
The thermocouples seem to be rated to a higher temp.
Can the PID be set to read higher temps or is it dependent on the thermocouple?
Also can they be set to read in F°?
I'm part Scot so I'm looking for the best value for my $$.
Thanks

Are you talking about the type that has the heating element down in the ladle? That’s interesting. I built a PID controller a couple years ago from plans I got off of youtube. There’s a little more to it than just the PID itself but still pretty cheap. these plans had links to all the parts. I’ll see if I can find it and post it here.

The YouTube author is “Johnny’s Reloading Bench” and it’s a series of videos. It’s called a “Mypin controller”. If you google those things you’ll find them. I followed the instructions pretty closely and mine turned out great.
