I just got a letter confirming my Model 48-2 with a 4" barrel was special ordered with a Red ramp front and Fancy Target Stocks in 1966, but it did not come to me with the Target Stocks instead it has Magnas not numbered to the gun. My question is what would Smith & Wesson consider "Fancy Target Stocks", Checkered Target or Plain Target Stocks. Do any one have an opinion or insight on this as am trying to put the correct Stocks on this hand gun.
Thanks for your help with this.

Maybe just a set of fancier grain target stocks appropriate for the year?

Like these?

Probably smooth Targets

Like others have posted above, I'm guessing the smooth Targets, also known as "presentation stocks" by some collectors I've heard.

My Model 27-2, Blue 3-1/2" came with the smooth Goncalo Alves as per the LOA.

Similar to these is most likely what you're looking for. I've seen some in the recent past on both our own For Sale sub-forum, and Flea Bay. Not cheap...but don't break the bank either like ammo or reloading components.:D
