God bless the Navy! They made this a swell Easter by ridding the world of three more Muslims. Problem is, when they make this into a movie the bad guys will be white supremists, russian gangters, or Michigan militiamen. Hollywood will never make a movie where the UNITED STATES MILITARY delt so heroically with African criminals/terrorists. Plus, they're Muslim! Can't touch that. It's too close to admitting Islam is a death cult and might insinuate Bush was right. Can't get near that one.

I prefer to hope that this event today shows signs of a deft touch on the part of our new president. Even if he just let the military handle it the way they wanted to, that is an improvement.

The previous administration, so far as I could tell, tended to apply excessive force with inadequate resources and inadequate planning for contingencies. If any military person had the infernal gall to point out any of these issues, they found themselves taking early retirement.

So I'm happy that it's turned out this way. Many of these things don't turn out as well.
 
Personally, I don't think enough force was used. I think that these guys will continue to do this until a very strong response is shown for their actions. If we had a President with a backbone and not one hell bent on pleasing the European Union, maybe we would see a pirate ship in flames for all of the world to see live on the evening news. But it is a different time I suppose.
 
If Bush was President right now,cnn WOULD be calling this excessive force. Something a guy above here also accuses Bush of doing. Instead, CNN is groveling at Obama's feet, every comentator fighting over a blue dress and beret to wear when they apply for a White House intern job. Obama did just fine here. Of course he can't sit down right now. Too much pain from bending over, I mean bowing to America hating foreign leaders. Now O'Carter can resume his dream of socializing America, and playing with his new dog Che. Gee. All of a sudden it's perfectly fine for our military to kill people. Bush liberates millions of people and he's a war criminal. Obama OK's the taking out of three bad guys, liberating one brave ship captain, and he's hero of the world. According to CNN, NBC, NY TIMES, LA TIMES, Kieth Oberman...
 
Bush (I and II) never claimed that Islam was a death cult and went to great pains to cultivate allies in the region and build coalitions as opposed to portraying all Muslims as the enemy. Only in the fevered dreams of his most ardent opponents did he even come close to being an anti-Muslim crusader.

Further, the Somali pirates would not be "African Americans" unless they somehow obtained citizenship. There almost certainly were African Americans on the responding U.S. Navy ships however.
 
Gator, thanks for pointing out that gaff. I blame it on my speech writers who put it on my teleprompter. I edited it out of embarrasment. Not that people are flocking here to read my wise ass remarks.
 
My thinking on all this is somewhat complex. On one hand I am far right conservative as you may have gathered by now. Also christian and hate all crime. YET think about it. The kid that didnt get killed was 16 years old, someone said (probley exaggerated 80 pounds).
You are born in somolia. Lucky you havent already starved to death. You probley have no real family, scoranged to eat. No goverment or laws or economy. About the only way to live at all is stealing and criminal, thats all you have ever known, seen or been taught. If you ever had any religion at all it was attending islam or musslem (I dont know the difference if any). I have heard they are taught to hate any other religion and kill anyone but them.
You get a crack, your big break in life in piracy. Huge easy fast money. What would we do?
Just looking at the other side of the nickel.

Sad but true. I thought about that too. But we can't help everybody. I used to have a bumper sticker that said "FIX AMERICA FIRST"

Don't forget the AP thinks this move is going to anger the pirates and cause the recruiting of more pirates and voilence, just like our War on Terror created more recruits for the terrorists. It's amazing how chicken%$@* some people in this country are!
