A twist on the gasoline shortage

Unmodified US civilian vehicle Engine Control Modules limit speed to 127 or 134 (depends on year).

They can be reprogrammed (i.e. Law enforcement, and customization)

Z rated tires are a must at that speed, or higher, for any extended period of time/miles.

And yes, fuel efficiency is out the window over 70-75 MPH

Make sure you're wearing cool sunglasses when driving over 90 MPH!

None of my Vettes were limited. My last one was a 15, possible newer than that might.

Reminds me of an auto theft that happened here in the Harrisburg area around 20-30 years ago. Some genius moron stole a BMW from a dealer lot one evening and decided that since jet fuel was a type of kerosene he would get a lot more oomph if he topped the tank off with it. Police units responding to the call found him leaving a nearby gas station and gave chase. The self proclaimed rocket scientist made it a couple blocks before succumbing to his own delusions.

I gotta ask....What gas stations sell jet-a fuel?

Well up here in the boonies most all stations sell Kerosene. Yes I know its not true jet fuel but its close, perhaps that is what was meant.

Not really not much difference just a bit more refinement. I worked at a refinery for a while and they made all sorts of Kerosene products, it all started out the same!

Back in the 1990's I got the wifes new V-W Bug up to 120 mph on the way to Utah and it was not the super duper engine, either.

85 mph feels a lot safer if it is legal, on some super highways........
otherwise 65-70 does real well with gas milage.

On the guy trying to out run the law...........

"Here's your sign"........

used to be out running the police was a 50 50 ,proposition. the advances in the radio communication have changed that to almost no chance at all. we used to run occasionally in our hotrod cars but more likely on our big rice burner motorcycles. krs/kenny

Lotsa cars will go 143 mph. Most tires won’t . . .

Maybe back in the '90s. If you buy a recent manufactured quality tire you won't have any issues. Plus, most modern tires in modern sizes are already "V" rated.

Heck, the tires for my little Dodge Fart, I mean Dart, are "W" rated... I'm trying to get it to 168mph but I think I first need to put a Superbird wing on it for that...

I believe the custom made tires for the Maybach Exelero were "Y" rated, whereas the Mercedes SLR got "ZR" rated ones, despite being able to go way beyond that speed.

Way back I had a ford 429 cobra which would go way past the 120 on the speedometer. Thinking back I had no clue what kind of tires the thing had on it. Makes me shudder now that I better understand such things. My 4 cylinder Camry has a speedometer with 160 on it. Why a 429 Ford only had 120 and my toyota has 160 is one those mysteries of life.
