A Very Sad Day

We had a fox den behind our house for a number of years and got a kick out of watching the kits playing at dusk until the evening one followed an adult across the street and was hit-Same thing, the guy was speeding

I blame the owner. Unless you own a large tract of land (farm, ranch, etc...) or have a secured area, cats should be kept indoors. Dogs too...

They're classifieds as domesticated animals for a reason. They prey on wildlife, aren't equipped to survive on their own and shouldn't be allowed to roam free.

Sorry to read this. Must be something to do with the full moon. We drove three hours to visit my mother in law in the nursing home today and counted 7 cats run over in the road.

Yes, I agree, though the poor cat mentioned by the OP may have had no owner. :(

My next door neighbor is obviously a dog girl, or I should say dog young lady. She has at least three. Going by their house, I have stopped the car several times for fear of hitting one or more. It's a small county road with two-way traffic. I have to stay to my side of the road, and I keep situational awareness in the rear view mirrors as I approach the house, but the dogs, and my efforts to avoid running over and killing them, could someday lead to a traffic incident. Possibly serious.

I can well understand her desire to have her dogs with her when she is out working in the yard, but I do wish she would invest in an electric perimeter "fence" and some training for her animals. By letting her dogs roam around uncontrolled, able to go charging out to the road at any car they please, she not only puts at risk the animals, but also, and perhaps more importantly, the motorists. No one has a "right" to do that, IMO, no matter where they live.

In the small, mostly-rural county where I live, we do have laws about controlling our animals, but who wants to involve law enforcement in what really should just be a matter of ordinary courtesy and common sense?

Our cats are all house cats although Natayo is allowed to wander around in our yard but only on a leash.

Sad to hear about the little guy/girl demise. You and your wife did a fine job of sending the kitten along its path to what follows. :(
