I'm thinking of buying one of these roadside services for my daughter because she is attending Clemson which is about a 200 mile drive from our home. Does anyone have experience with either? Thanks.

i get mine through verizon. its only 3 dollars added to my cell phone bill each month. i've used it a few times and have had no problem with the service.

Got AAA for my wife a few years back when I was traveling on business a good bit. Have had to use it a couple of times - relatively quick response and no additional costs. I'm satisfied with it and continue to renew.

Traditionally, they have been the best. Think of them as the S&W of the road side assistance service world. ;)

Anywhere we have lived, from the upper Midwest, to the Northeast, and now here in Arizona, AAA seems to have the most reliable service.

My parents encouraged me to join AAA when I first started driving, about half a century ago . . . knowing they wouldn't have to come rescue me in the event of a car ailment.

During college, my AAA membership made it possible for me to bail out friends with less than perfectly reliable cars.

Today, it is still convenient to be able to dial an 800 number on a cell phone with confidence that roadside service will arrive promptly, just about anywhere in the country.

Ive been a AAA member for close to 20 years and they have always been GREAT!
I have several older vehicles and have had to use their services on many occasions. Twice I needed their RV services (towing), which are not part of the "standard" membership package. Both times they let me add the RV rider to my membership right on the spot - for about $15 - saving me hundreds in towing costs. AAA is tops in my book. I'll be a loyal member for as long as I'm able to drive.

AAA. In addition to being around for a long time and offering roadside service, they offer a lot more. Travel, discounts on car rentals, things like that.

Autovantage sounds great (from the commercials) but personally, I'd want more of a track record before I'd give them my money.

Have you checked with you own car insurance company? Some of them offer the same service as AAA but a lot cheaper.

My sister...

...gave me a year's membership to the AARP Roadside Progam. Renewal time came up and I called my own insurance company and for $4.00 annually, I got the same coverage. Unless you want maps and doodads, ask your current carrier.

We've had AAA for around 15 years and used it a handful of times. Pretty sure I've spent more on dues than value of service but it's nice to know that help is just a phone call away. I look at it like homeowners' insurance. Hope you don't need it but nice when you do.

I don't know how AAA compares with the others. Our daughter was covered while on college and it alleviated some of the worry.
Definitely recommend something if not AAA.
