Prices look to be standard retail, the savings would be in no taxes, you do have too select the exchange location for pickup.

Up here in Alaska, where everything seems to be marked up due to freight or lack of competition, the BX/PX actually has pretty decent prices. Most S&W's can be had for hundreds less than Cabela's/Bass Pro, and less than an LGS after they add freight if the firearm is not in stock. The BX/PX is not always the best deal, but they are very competitive.

Interesting! Active duty and retired military personnel can purchase sporting arms and ammunition. Imagine that!

Another interesting fact: With a VA identification card us old vets can shop the BX/PX system, too!

I am sure that all federal and state laws must be adhered to, background checks, etc. I don't see a problem with this at all.

Half a century ago we used to have the Rod & Gun Clubs at many military bases. We could order just about anything on the market for delivery at the Club. I don't recall any problems then, and I don't expect any problems now.

The good old days of Rod and Gun Clubs. We had one at Rhein Main AB Germany and one up here at Elmendorf AFB AK. Elmendorf's went away around 1998/1999 and stock was moved to the BX/PX with much of the really good quality stuff going away as stock was sold.

I decided to look at the firearms offered on the AAFES website. Quite a selection! On the off chance I'd be able to travel to the closest one (the nearest military base is about 150 miles away), I discovered there was an AAFES store only 13 miles from my place on the Air National Guard area of the local civilian airfield. How fortuitous!

Just got the VA email in the past week or so, about allowing
vets access to base commissaries--it didn't mention AAFES/NEX
tho...?

Ironically, AAFES is not eligible for blue label pricing of Glocks. Military are eligible, but you have to buy them from a qualifying dealer.

AAFES prices run nearly $100 more than blue label.

I used to buy guns at the Marine Corps Exchange in Norfolk, but the I discovered about three dozen stores with better selection and prices in the area.

AAFES went down hill decades ago. Earlier this summer we had to go to Luke to renew my wife's ID card, so I went to the Exchange while I was at it. I was less than impressed with their gun prices. They were on par with most things they sell, too high.

I was US Army in Frankfurt and had a part-time job working at the RM R&G in the '70's

When I was at Patrick AFB FL. there exchange had really good price's with sales on scopes and guns & rifles.

Ammo was also bargain.
