Good morning. Can anyone recommend an ACOG style scope for my M&P sport rifle. I’m trying not to remove the front sight post. Is this possible? I will just be shooting from 50-100 yard distances. I can’t afford the Trijicon. I just started using scopes because of these old eyes of mine. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

I have a 2.5 compact scope from Primary Arms and it works well. Comes with it's own mount like the Acog. I believe since I bought the 2.5 power, they have come out with a 3.5 power.

I had to quit iron sights years ago; I had just gotten back into AR carbines again and there was no way I could focus on the front sight AND a target. As the gun fund allowed it at the time, I wound up buying a l.5X Compact ACOG. Solved the problem beautifully. I liked it so much that I eventually sprung for a 3 X 30 Compact ACOG as well. Still use both.

HOWEVER I put a Bushnell TRS-80 (?) on a 15-22 (about $65) for practice. It does the red dot thing quite well out to 200 yards, thank you. To tell the truth, when using it It's just like using an ACOG at a fraction of the cost.

Just for the heck of it I built up another carbine a couple of years ago and threw another TRS-80 on that. I could upgrade to something like a Romeo red dot, but what would be the point?

Just something to think about.

On one of my AR-15's, I mounted a Burris 2x7 scope. The front sight post does not interfere with the sight picture. I also mounted a Burris FastFire red dot sight on a top scope ring. You can see the front sight, but it does not interfere with the dot. A nice package that covers close and fast, as well as offering longer range capability.

The Burris optics package noted in an earlier post would also be a good choice. For the most part, I am not a big fan of ACOG knock offs. I don't believe they offer the quality of the real thing, and cheap electronics can have spotty reliability. I like brands like Burris and Vortex as a minimum to buy without spending crazy money and still maintain reliability. Lots of the real cheap stuff usually works, but is often problem prone.

The ACOGs are apparently outstanding scopes in every way but I've never owned one simply because of the price. I have an AR-15 with a Redfield 2-7X (about $150) scope that has worked out really well and I recently built another AR and installed a Primary Arms 1-4X scope with illuminated reticle. Very few inexpensive scopes have a "true 1x" which means no magnification and with the illuminated circle reticle it is just about like using a red dot sight plus you can use the 4x for longer range or more precise shooting. Many 3 gun competitors use this scope so it is fairly durable and I recently bought mine on line for 120 bucks with free shipping. If the battery ever fails it will still work fine just like any other variable power scope.

Once you get above two power, the scope looks "around" the FSP.
