ACOG Clones

Thinking of buying one of those ACOG clones out there. Iron sights getting too hard to see with these old eyes. I figure 4X for 100 yards is about right. Any thoughts on these? I've read reviews from chinese junk to works great. Just wondering if they're worth it? Just can't afford a real one right now.

I only have experience with Primary Arms versions but I’d recommend them for normal use. No issues during coyote hunts and trucking around the desert. Holds zero and the glass is decent. The etched ACSS reticle is easy to use and the option to adjust the illumination is a plus. It’s been awhile but I think most of them have a 3-year warranty. That may deter some people.

Have you thought about a red dot and magnifier instead of an acog clone? Depending on what role your rifle plays this may be a better option.

Good to know about the Primary Arms being OK. I'm thinking about getting one for my AR carbine. If that works out, I'll get the 7.62x39/300BO model for my 7.62x39 upper.

223/5.56 is about $800/1K 7.62x39 steel cased is less than half that. The cost savings on less than a case paid for my complete 7.62x39 side charging upper. Adult Legos, man.

Several companies make fixed 3 and 5 power red dot types scopes just for the AR market.

Burris is one AR-332™ | Burris Optics

Having used red dot sights for just short of 40 years and suffering from old ageitis myself, I'd suggest a slightly different direction. I think the best all around optic for the AR is a 1-4/1-6 scope with capped turrets and a simple reticle. If you can find one with an available red dot too, it's a plus.

The two suggestions above are both good ones. I worked and taught at a high end resort in CO. where we did AR shoots for the guests, shooting steal out to 800 yards. We had many AR's with a variety of optics for them to try out. The guests loved my Burris AR-332 and the same one in a 5 power. We had several with 1-4,1-6 scopes that were also very popular.
