I've been picking up some nice S&W revolvers over the past couple years. What they have in common are 6 inch barrels, Patridge front sight, adjustable rear sight, pinned barrels, and recessed chambers. I've replaced all the factory grips with Pachmayr gripper grips as they fit my hands perfectly. And I like the finger grooves. I've replaced all the thumbpieces with the SDM new style thumbpiece as that lets me press forward on the thumbpieces' knurled 45 degree angle to open the cylinder without changing my grip on the revolver. And the other mod I've done on all the revolvers is to replace the mainsprings and the trigger return springs with Wolff reduced power springs. That lightens up the somewhat heavy factory trigger pulls.

I've picked up a model 17-2 in 22 lr, model 48-2 in 22WMR, model 19-2 in .357, and a model 25-2 in 45 ACP. I had a model 29-2 in 44 mag but sold that a couple years ago to a friends son.

Day before yesterday I picked up a 27-2 in .357. Made the standard mods on it and it fits right in with the rest of my collection. I shot it with some LRN and LSWC .38 Special ammo yesterday and at 25 yds from a sand bag rest, it shot all shots in a 3 inch black bullseye. Pretty good for these 65 year old diabetic eyes!

Still looking for a model 53 but probably won't go to the expense of buying a reloader and forming dies so I can make the ammo to shoot the 22 Jet caliber revolver. And with both models 17 and 48 already in my collection, don't really want to pay the high price for the model 53 so I can just shoot it with the rimfire inserts.

I'd like to add a K32 Masterpiece, but for what I've seen them listed for, $4,500, I don't think that will be in my collection any time soon.

I'd like to pick up a model 547 in 9mm but they made them only in 3 and 4 inch barrels. I like 6 inch barreled revolvers.

I've attached a photo of the 4 models I already owned, and a photo of the 27-2 I just picked up.

Nice 27!!! I am not fortunate enough to have 1. Close, but no cigar, have a 6", 28 no dash. I am not into rubber grips. Target grips are my main thing! BUT..... Grippers are the best rubbers I've tried. Recently bought a 25-15, 45 Colt. Accurate for me. I am 62, and shoot better than I did at 30. Must be more practice. Enjoy the 27! Bob

Congrats on your 27-2.:D I've had my 3 1/2" 27-2 about 35 years and it's my favorite 357. :DMy mint 1976 6" Royal Blue Python sits in the safe with only~ 50 rounds thru it since I bought it in a moment of weakness.:(

They are beautiful guns and I always want one -- until I pick one up. Dear Father, they are big and heavy (the words "artillery piece" come to mind). When I was a kid cops actually carried those things on their hips. I just can't imagine how they did it. I will continue to admire them, but I'll stick with my K-frames.
