I know that this question has been asked multiple times but I was wondering if there was definitive answer to this question. I'm considering buying a Gen 1 M&P 9c that has the factory Crimson Trace system. I would like to add a single side thumb safety if possible. I know that the frame would have to be modified and the thumb safety itself would have to be modified to be a single side switch and it appears that I can buy the safety and associated parts but will they work with the Gen 1 Sear Housing Block and if not can I purchase a Sear Housing Block that will work with the Gen 1 gun and the thumb safety?

I'm considering a new 9C and was wondering if we can retain the left side thumb safety lever, to accommodate the crimson trace grip laser on the right side. I emailed CT and SW and haven't heard anything. Anyone know?

That's incredibly easy to do. Just be careful not to cut it off too far. I used a table grinder. If you find it hard, or don't have the tools, we can do a trade. You pay shipping and I'll send you the finished left only thumb safety. I'll end up doing the same to the one you send. Also, no point in adding a frame plug on the right.

thanks! ah, so just grind it down and save the vertical flat tab part and the CT grip laser will fit? cool. I'll let you know if I end up getting the 9C, it's that or a springfield xd9compact(weighing the grip safety route). I appreciate it!

Oh, so if I bought a new 9C with crimson trace grip(cheaper that way) I could add a left side thumb safety?

Does the one with the CT already on it, come with a safety? If not, it leaves open a few variables that may be a hassle. If it does not come with the safety, you'd have to get one. The atmosphere right now, is that they are sold out and hard to find. Then, once you get the safety, you have to check if there are frame plugs. If there are, good, just remove them. If not, you'd have to cut a space for the left part of the safety, on the frame. Now, you'll need to check if the sear housing block is the kind that will accept the safety. If there are plugs, it may be. If not, it is almost certain that you will have to buy a new sear housing block.

So weigh all of that against buying an M&P with safety already installed, and then buying a used CT. Or new, but it may be less hassle and not much more cost to just get the M&P with a safety and buy the CT.
