Adding Foregrip to a 100% stock Sport2: exact proven parts list and instructions?

Hi All-
Thanks for viewing my thread, and for hopefully posting the info I'm looking for.
(yes, I searched and read before posting)

I wanted to ask the forum for a little help, and to create a thread that I assume will be helpful to many others that are like me:
Someone who just bought their first AR, and looking to simply add a foregrip only to their 100% stock Sport2.

I was hoping to get info on PROVEN parts so I can be 100% certain, before I buy, that these parts are proven to work on the Sport2.

Could those who know, please post the exact part numbers?
Maybe even a link to the parts and the best prices?

Or, do I go this route instead:

I've been told by someone who does NOT own a Sport2 the following that I need is a small strip of rail that will come with the hardware to attach to the inside of the stock Sport2 hand guard like below.

Any 7" drop in handguard will work. Some other longer handguards will also work with the A2 front post but I recommend a 7".

As long as it is carbine length, it will work. Some that extend past the front sight base may require you to remove the sling attachment, such as the Magpul SL line.

Basically it is the length and the thickness off the rails. The SL is slimmer and longer. Both of these rails use the M-Lok system to attach rail sections to the hanguard only where you need them.

I personally like the look of the MOE M-LOK more than the MOE SL but it is a preference issue not really a performance issue.

Before I pull the trigger on the above, does everyone agree this is the best stuff for me to buy to add a foregrip to my unmodified Sport2?

Is $52 delivered the best deal I'm going to find?
Is there better deals as part of a lager package that includes additional accessories?

Is there anything else I should add to my order as a first time gun owner and new Sport 2 owner?

Any other advice?

You will want the M-LOK rails, either polymer or aluminum, to go with the SL handguard. The longest rail I can find is the 11 slot rail which doe not quite cover the length on the bottom. They make different sizes from 3 slot to 11 slot rails.

My advice would be to forget about the vertical grip. If you are a first time gun owner, I am going to assume that you are new to shooting... not sure what you think you need the vertical grip for. Learn to shoot using proper technique before moving on to the tactical type stuff.

Whether it's all in my head or not, I just feel more comfortable holding a rifle with a foregrip.

Brother, that isn't whining. If there is a limitation and the vertical grip makes shooting possible, then you get one and enjoy shooting.

With that in mind though, you may want to share what your limitations are and someone with a similar condition may be able to give better advice as to which type of grip helps the most. I'm sure you have noticed, but there are several types, ranging from vertical to angled.

IMHO the Grip Pod is a jack of all trades and a master of none. It is too long as foregrip and it is a short non-pivoting bipod. It is also way to expensive for what you are getting. You can attach the Grip Pod to the MOE SL handguard by purchasing a m-lok rail section which you will attach to the handguard and the Grip Pod attaches to that. If you are going to mainly be shooting from a rest or from a prone position then a Harris bipod would be a better and IMHO cheaper choice. Some people run them with foregrips but for me it starts to get too busy up front so for me its bipod or foregrip not both.

Please don't take it the wrong way but I never recommend using a foregrip like this:

It does not give you proper purchase on the front of the rail. Running a foregrip is a good thing IMHO but it is more for hand placement and something to push against or pull back on like in this Pic.

Look how his hand is gripping the handguard. It will give you better point-ability and control at 0-100 yards than gripping it like a handle. I personally like smaller foregrips like the BCM "Short" model but even their standard model is shorter than the Grip Pod and most other grips. Even if I use something like a Knights Armament USGI grip I will still use it as a grip point not a handle. If your physical condition dictates you use it has a handle I suggest getting the shortest one that fills your hands not something too long.

This is sort of personal preference based on how I shoot and use my rifle so YMMV. I always try to ask new AR15 shooters how are you planning on using your AR15? What type of shooting for example are you shooting offhand, from a bench, 3 gun competitions, plinking in the back yard, 50 yards, 100 yards, 300 yards etc... because for me the gun, the setup, the accessories, the optics that you use should all be driven by function.

My SHTF gun is different than my 300 yard shooting from a rest range only gun. If presses into defensive service the range gun is still setup to work in that environment but that was not the focus of that build. So when picking out these upgrades think about the intended use for the gun and include it in your questions because some gear is better suited for some tasks than others.

I pulled the trigger and ordered the following:

-MAGPUL MOE SL HANDGUARD CARBINE AR15 BLACK

-GRIP-POD LE POLYMER BI-POD BLACK

-MAGPUL M-LOK POLY RAIL - 11 SLOTS


I probably would have been fine with the just the Magpul forgrip.
But, I chose the the picatinny rail and the SL handgaurd for the 11 different slots to offer a wider range of adjustment, and options for future/replacement accessories.
I went with the grip pod because I like having 2 accessories in one (foregrip+ bi-pod).
Also, since Grip-Pod has sold a million of these to governments all over the world, and tons of police departments, it's got to be good.

Just remember, you are getting opinions of these products, many of which will vary. Part of the fun of the AR is experimenting with parts and deciding for yourself what you do like and don't like. The best thing about the platform is the interchangeability. If you don't like something, swap it out and try something else. It will end up costing you a little more, but you begin to unerstand how you want to set up your rifle. Me personally, I will never again buy a non free floated handguard rifle. That's what I have learned I like. You will learn too what you like, but it takes time and experience (and money) to figure it out. Good luck!
