Advice for carrying a 45 revolver

I carry two moonclips for my 610 in one of these:

You need to use steel moonclips with it, with Rimz there is the chance of knocking a round loose if you bang into something. I haven't had any of the rounds in the holder come out on their own, just knocking one round out of the moonclip when I hit the steering wheel once getting out of the car.

cocked & locked,

That is totally stunning. While I can hardly imagine such an event, should you ever deceide it really is too heavy for you, contact me please. Right away. Soon please.

Hey thanks...you never know!

This gun appears in Dean Grennell's "Book of the 45" and "Pistol and Revolver Digest." Dean states it was owned by his brother and built by John B. Williams Gunsmithing in Fullerton CA.

One book is from the early 1970's...the other from later in the 1970's

I originally had the holster made for a 2.5" N-frame but it fits the Colt just fine.

Oh jeez, the price just went up!

You know, that weight you record is interesting. My Shorty .45 (loaded) weighs in at two pounds almost two ounces. Them big .45 sixguns just aren't that heavy, they're more hole than not.

Beautiful sixgun. How does it shoot? Real poorly I bet.

It shoots as good as it looks. The red ramp front and the S&W rear sight help me big time. The action is smooth and yet very crisp...hard to describe. Simply closing the cylinder feels like its a precision made piece of equipment, different from any othe Colt or S&W I've had in my hands...hard to describe that too.

One of the books shows a picture of Dean's brother shooting the Colt. The brother's name is Ralph. Thats my first name also.

I assume you mean these.

They're 255gr WFNPB from BeartoothBullets.com
Here's one next to a .380acp/9mm kurz for comparison.

Just keep think'n about the "kick" it'll deliver to anybody who gets in the way of one of them big ole' 230 gr. slugs.

Get a 1911. 8-9 rounds out of the holster, thin, flat and very concealable + recoil is very soft.

Hi:
I carry a "N" frame .45acp 4" in a "Andrews"
pancake holster on my right hip. I have discovered a HKS H-90 370-C #103 speed loader pouch will accept two (2) full moon clips in each of the compartment which gives the wearer four (4) full moon clips plus one full moon clip in the weapon.
Filling the speed loader pouch, the first clip insert bullets down in each indiviual compartment with the second clip inserted bullets up.
If the HKS #103 pouch is too bunkly for your taste, HKS also offers a single #103 pouch that will accept two full moon clips. Safariland offers a speed loader pouch (#370-2C)
that holds the clips closer to your waist by design of one half of the clip over your belt and the second half of the clip inside the pouch. (pouch is open on both sides.)

Thanks 'nilla- FSU grad here- go to Tally at least weekly. Been rainy here about 30 miles east!

Jimmyj- thank you very much for that- I'll have to check them out. I think my 226 is going to be the "van" gun with all it's extra mags. The 220 was sold for a NG325 + cash and I think the + cash should help me start carrying the 325.
Look at me, I'm "retro" - almost....

For Cocked n Locked: Do you happen to know the diameter of your cylinder throats and the bore? I've found that Colt and Smith 1917s have .454 throats, but I'm wondering about the bore....will appreciate what you know, I'm on the verge of buying a Colt 1917 to cut down. (and no, this one is not a collectible....)

I carry my N frame revolvers in a Milt Sparks Versa Max II inside the waistband (IWB) or a Simply Rugged Pancake holster with IWB straps attached. I would recommend an IWB holster regardless of brand or weapon for concealed carry.

I ordinarily use the California Competition Works moonclip holder with the plastic insert removed and a piece of dowel in its place. Last year I bought a North Mountain single post moonclip holder at a USPSA match for the purpose of street carry. It also works very well for carrying two moonclip reloads without the bulk of other dual holders.

I use the El Paso Street Combat holster, built for a 4" Redhawk but it also carries my 4" 625 Mountain Gun, 3" full lug 625 and 4" full lug 625 interchangeably. For years I have been effectively hiding large frame revolvers under just a T shirt with this holster.

I'm a fan of the 1/3 moonclips from Ranch Products. Sure they don't reload as fast, but if your clever they carry much flatter than full moons. Doing a partial reload is nice too.
