I would appreciate any advice on choosing a gunsmith for my M1 carbine. It is an Inland/GM Ser#5016xxx, dated 1-44. Apparantly marketed by Blue Sky. I have had it for a long time, and it shoots ok but I would like to send it to someone who really knows his business to have it worked on. My wife loves shooting it, and I want to leave it to one of my grandkids in good shape. Any advise appreciated.

I think Fulton Armory did at one time, still may. Culver Shooting Pages (website) is big on US military small arms; check those out.

What do you need to have done to it? I've built several M1 carbines from scratch out of parts and they are pretty simple guns to make work. The only thing I had to have a smith do was headspace the chamber. I'm not a gunsmith, but if you have a specific problem I might be able to point you on the right direction.

If you're looking for someone to refinish or just fix it up a bit, I highly recommend Dean's Gun Restorations at;

DGR Home Page - Dean's Gun Restorations

Thank you for the replies. I was thinking of parkerizing and replacement of seriously worn parts. I think that the parts are original. I'll look into DGR and Fulton.

I would second Dean's Restorations. He's done some work for me. His work is outstanding, turnaround is very quick and his prices are more than fair. I had him rebarrel a Garand for me and I had it back in two weeks - most of that time was spent in shipping.

Again, thanks to all. I have created an account on Fulton for any future needs. I have been unable to access Deans' Gun Restoration website since you guys suggested it. Just tried it again and am still unable to get it to come up. I'll try again tomorrow.

From my personal experience I also highly recommend Dean's Restoration [Telephone: (423) 562-2010 ] give him a call, he is also a very pleasant person and wealth of information. He will not over sell you.

You won't be sorry.

yet another vote for Dean at DGR.... and I second stay away from Riverbank Armory and Fulton...... I've had bad juju with both of them
