A couple of months ago I decided that I "needed" a S&W 22 revolver. And I was soon surprised at how hard it was to find one in excellent condition here in Canada. I live near Toronto.

But this story ended happily after I located one online in Calgary. In fact, the gun exceeds my expectations. It came out of the estate of a German man who was obviously more of a collector than a shooter. Notice the German proof marks. So far I have been able to determine the gun was made in 1975. It was proofed and I assume sold by S&W in Germany in 1977. It was then brought by its owner to western Canada.

I would rate its condition as Excellent.

It came with the standard target grips which I have put in a safe place along with the original box, papers and unused tool set. The Hogue grips match a set I have on my five inch 27-2.

The first range session showed that it is very accurate. The only issue, and perhaps someone has some suggestions, is that the ejector was hard to push after shooting. It is very stiff at the beginning each time it is pushed, but once it is started, it slides easily the rest of the way.

I paid what I think is top dollar at $700 CDN. But in this case I think the gun was worth it. I would do it again in a flash.

You have a real dandy there. You and the next couple of generations of your family should be able to enjoy that one.

Very nice. Shoot it in good health.

And 'Greetings' from the other end of the continent.
If you should make it down this way like millions of other Canadians ,
look me up.

Beautiful gun and grips. I love my17-3 as well. I've scoured out the chambers with a .25 copper bore brush and some good cleaner. They tend to gunk up quicker than the 617 chambers. I take some cleaner and a nylon bore brush to the range and run the brush through now and then.

That's one fine looking revolver you have there and I'm sure your going to enjoy it. As far as your extraction problems, I have a 18-4 with similar problems, most had tight chambers and you just have to keep them clean.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I really think this is a great gun.

And robctwo, you hit the nail on the head. I never thought to clean the chambers before going to the range for the first time with the new-to-me gun because they looked pristine to my eye. But I just ran a copper brush through them a few times and a patch or two and now the bullets just fall into place.... and the ejector works just fine, thank you.
