If you have replaced your factory G.I. style hand guards with after market drop in models for you M4 style rifle please proved the following:

1. What model did you select and why;

2. From what supplier/manufacturer did you obtain them;

3. What was the approximate price point;

4. How do you like them and how have they improved the
usefulness of you M4 style carbine?

Than you in advance for your responses and let the games begin!

I bought the Midwest Industries M-Lok. I bought it because while looking online for the best drop in handguards, the MI was on every list I found. I wanted quality aluminum. My buddy gave me his quad rail, but I didn’t like a quad rail as much as I thought. Most of what I read, M-Lok was more preferred than KeyMod. And I wanted it made in the USA.

I bought mine from Optics Planet.

$119.95

I love it. However, I haven’t put it on yet, but it feels great. Every review I’ve read says it’s rock solid. I’ll find out soon.

First post!

I eliminated my drop in rails after many months of issues with moving POI with rail mounted lasers. I finally ground down the Front Sight Base an put a free float rail on my Sport. I used the Fortis rail which uses the stock barrel nut. It looks great and is super stable. Mo more problems with POI shifts. I'm not sure of the cost, but I think it was less than $200. Highly recommend this modification.

When I had a carbine length gas system, A2 front sight base, rifle that used a 2-piece handguard, I used a B5 systems 2 piece drop in handguard.

I don't remember the name of the vendor. Search Google and you'll find plenty of vendors.

Price = $28 - $35

I liked them because:

  • Slim diameter, 1.75"
  • Light weight, 3.9 oz
  • It has heat shields

went with the Magpul MOE Sl. Paid about $35 otd at a LGS. Felt more comfortable in the hand and has a heat shield.

The only rifle I still have with the front A2 sight post is my Sport. I swapped out my front handguard to a Knights Armament RAS. The RAS might be the best drop in rail you can find, only drawback is that it's a picatinny, but oh well rail covers help a lot. I love it, rock solid and from a top notch company. I bought mine used, but they are almost $200 new.
