Age of my Model 63

I was just curious about the age of my Model 63. Serial # is 588XX.

Hi, if you can post the letters and numbers (partial if you prefer, like M 588xx or ABC 12xx) from the bottom of the grip frame, we can tell you when the gun was shipped.

I thought the 588 from inside the frame would be enough. Inside the frame it says Model 63 and right under it are 5 numbers starting with 588. I'll look on the grip frame tonight.

The numbers there on many S & Ws are referred to as "assembly numbers", which are factory internal codes. Other makes (such as Colts) have the SN stamped in the location you describe.

Also, since 1968 all guns must have a unique SN, it would be hard to do that if you only had 100000 numbers with which to work .
