Thinking of getting one of these...but torn between the Aimpoint Carbine Optic (ACO) and the PRO. I have the standard A4 front sight on my AR. Does anyone know if these two types of optics need a higher mount or is my standard picatinny rail ok?

I have a PRO and the standard mount that comes with it will give you lower 1/3 co-witness with standard FSB or BUIS. You can take out a section of the mount and make it true co-witness. I ended up changing to a ADM quick at 1/3 co-witness. Either way will work, or rather should work for you.

Hi M14. I have Pro on my Sport with the mount that it came with. Absolute co witness. Very happy with it

This is incorrect. The PRO mount sets up for a 39mm height that is the U.S military standard height for night vision equipment. It translates to the dot being a little above the front sight, but not a true lower 1/3 co witness. It actually sort of ends up being in between absolute and lower 1/3. 39mm is a technical spec and the co-witness descriptions are exactly that...descriptions but not a particular standard. The PRO works great with the factory mount that utilizes the bottom parts of the current USArmy issue Comp m4 CCO. If you remove the spacer, it is the correct height for the HK 416 and guns like the Steyr AUG that need a 30 mm height mount.

Hope this helps. I do LE pro staff work for Aimpoint, just to establish that I have a pretty good grasp of mounting options. As far as red dot sights go, I think the PRO is the single best buy out there for a red dot.

The standard mount on the PRO works well on my le6920 - I'm assuming it's all fairly standard. Of course now that I've said that I'm sure I'll be corrected!

Now I just have to find a magnifier that works well with it!

You have what is my top recommendation for people asking about what AR and optic to get. So, not only no correction from me, but a "well done, sir"!

As far as a magnifier.....the Aimpoint 3X is the top of the food chain and a perfect match with the PRO. It has great Euro glass, and adjustments to perfectly center the dot. If you use the factory Twist mount system with the factory spacer, it will perfectly align behind the PRO.

I just put a Aimpoint PRO on my new MP15x and went to the range ---Love it. My first AR and first red dot. Wow what a rush.

I have a PRO on my Colt 6920 and it is a great compromise between cost and performance.
