Air Mail in the 1930s-40s

I was looking up some other information and ran across this. I was unaware of how Air Mail was picked up from and delivered to smaller communities over 80 years ago. Airmail Pickup Canister | National Postal Museum

Reminds me of the Fulton Surface to Air Recovery System (STARS), a sporty way to retrieve guys behind enemy lines. (Was one helluva ride, I bet.)
