The Model 619 slipped past me and I know it's not catalogued. I'm intrigued by a fix-sighted, non-underlugged 7-shot L-frame.

It seems ideal to me although a 3-inch model would be better. (But my 3-inch 686s do quite nicely.)

Guess back in 2005 I was still heavy into SASS and took no notice. I note in the Standard Catalog it has/had a two piece 5-inch barrel and was intended to fill the K-frame gaps.

I suspect no interest in the 619 and it has gone onto a forgotten glory.

Any one out there have one?

The Models 619 & 620 had promise, but didn't stay around long enough to gain much attention or develop any buzz. Maybe S&W will bring them back one day. I think their lack of "branding" hurt them in the marketplace. How many potential S&W buyers have even heard of a M619/620? Compared to guns like the 686, 66, 64, 67, & 65 which are practically household names in the gun world with their 35+ year head start.

It has a 4" barrel, and appeared to be the factory's response to the durability issues of .357 K frames (a substitute for the model 65, just as the 620 was intended to replace the model 66). At that time, however, the LE and self-defense world had moved on to the 9 mm/.40 S & W semi-auto. I mean, who here is still interested in those hoary, ancient revolvers? ;)

I guess the SSR comes closest to the concept and I'm not sure
how hot a seller that has been for Smith.

I just picked up a Model 520 and in perusing the Standard Catalog I came upon the 619/620 which I noticed were L-frame
and not an N-frame like the 520.

The size dissimilarity really caught me off guard considering that I would have thought a 620 would be a stainless steel version of the 520. Guess I was brainwashed by the 586/686 designations.

There are two model 520s, the .357 six-shot N frame ("model of 1980") and the seven-shot L frame with Ti alloy cylinder ("model of 2005"). Not the first time S & W has used the same model number for different guns, but quite possibly the last :).

620

I don't have a 619 but I do have it's adjustable sighted brother the 620. It is a 7 shot N-Frame with a 4 inch, two piece barrel with a short under lug. It's just like a 686+ except for the barrel design. It has a weight of 36.9 oz.

Here's my 619. It had only been fired a few rounds before I bought it. I was getting occasional light primer strikes in double action with WWB, but my defense ammo fired flawlessly. I tightened the screw under the grip about 1/16th of a turn until completely bottomed out, but haven't been back to the range to re-test. S&W CS said they will repair if I still have issues.
