Misty and I stopped at Ali-Babba's House O Guns this morning. It didn't take me long to spot this in the case. I asked to see it, wondering what "dash" it was. Turned out to be a "no dash", four screw, Model 19. Sort of finish challenged, but "honest wear" and all the mechanical stuff checked out.

I had to put it on layaway, but hope to get it out before too long.

S/N is K436xxx...Anybody got a book handy?

Serial number says 1961. Interesting, because the dash 1 started in 1959, with the change in the threads on the extractor rod. Are the threads right hand or left hand? If you can show a photo of the left side, we could tell you for sure. It may well be a late no-dash gun.

I wish that Babba fellow would open a store around here. Pickings are very slim around these parts. I've been looking for a 4 screw 19 for years, never even seen one for sale...

Ha! Like I'd know the difference. All I know is the inside of the crane says Model 19. With no dash.

Sorry that's the only picture I took and I got the SN off the layaway receipt. I won't be able to check it until it comes out.

Look carefully at the rod on the guns in these two pictures.
The first one has right hand threads. You will notice that the knurling goes right up to the part of the rod where it is smooth.
On the second gun, there is a deeper, smooth gap between the knurling and the rod itself. That indicates left hand threads.

When you get your gun out of jail, you can check.

Well I picked it up today and took some new pictures of it with a better camera. The finish wear shows up better here, as does the ejector rod Jack mentioned.

It's different from the rod on my 19-4. It really looked bad when I got it out in the light, but a good wipedown with a silicone cloth helped a lot. I had to scrub the heck out of the chambers to get 357's to fit all of them. Apparently the previous owner shot a lot of 38's and didn't clean it well. A little oil slicked the trigger up.

Now, I hope to get out to the range soon.
