Who makes it? Where is it made?. Had some 45acp brass and it was all trash......Threw it away....Just got some .44spl brass and it loaded OK. Box does not say where it is made and I can't get a clear answer on the interenet.

Amerc has a reputation for loaded ammo that is inconsistent and brass that is soft, primer pockets that lack uniformity and off-center flash holes. I avoid the stuff like the plague.

From my experience with this ammo, I have decided they likely buy bulk components that have failed quality control standards of the manufacturers, and then assemble ammo in an indifferent manner.

In other words, all of it I have tried has been junk.

According to the Wikipedia article on headstamps,

A-MERC (1983-2014) American Ammunition - Miami, Florida. Manufactured brass casings for handloaders and small-batch ammo manufacturers. Went out of business in 2014 due to internet backlash concerning a drop in product quality.

See: Headstamp - Wikipedia

Personally, I have maybe a dozen cases with this headstamp in 9mm Parabellum and none of them has any outward signs of a problem, so I think A-MERC's quality was probably "hit or miss" and if they got it right, the case was perfectly serviceable; if they didn't get it right, well, then you had something to sell to the scrap metal buyer.

Rather fanciful, but inaccurate. They made their brass (or had it made for them in South America) and assembled their own ammunition. The problem with sarcastic and hyperbolic explanations is that there are people casually cruising this site that will take that as if it were true.

IIRC Amerc. ammo was just plain poor quality components and assembly. Perhaps a small starting company that tried to cut corners to improve their bottom line. I only found a half dozen cases, but discarded them before they got home with me...

And I agree with hdwhit. It happens mostly with new reloaders that read something on a forum and treat it as gospel...

A simple search of Amerc ammo will yield a gazillion threads on it. There are many on this forum alone,

There is no much of it around littering the ranges, if found throw it out.

Admittedly, my take on it was a guess -- but the outcome is the same. The takeaway is that it's junk, however it was made.

While reloading between 1983 to 2016 every AMERC case I loaded popped the primer while I was seating the bullet. Their brass was bright, shiny, and beautiful when it came out of the tumbler. It was easy to spot because of the bright 'butter' color.

The AMERC reloads were an accident because I tried to throw all of it in the trash. 45 ACP brass was the worst for soft primer pockets or else it was loaded quite 'brisk' at the factory.

I've only seen it in 9mm & .45ACP.

Tried loading .45ACP when I was new and even then it felt weird sizing, felt weird seating and when I tried it I could easily set the bullet back in the case.

Amerc goes straight into the scrap bucket.
