The Smithsonian Channel starts a new season of its series, America In Color, tonight at 8:00 p.m.

This is original color film shot in the 20th Century. To the best of my knowledge, this is not colorized film. The series features amateur and professional footage, lots of it never seen by the majority of Americans.

Tonight's episode features footage of Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, and Thomas Edison together at a family picnic. They're shown shooting some type of lever action rifle, but I can't tell what it is. I believe it was 1929.

This series is worth watching, especially considering that Sunday nights are a television dead zone.

The Smithsonian Channel America in Color website states

"Through colorized archival footage and personal home movies, explore the business relationships that transformed America and glimpse into powerful friendships that lasted a lifetime."

Kodacolor home movies were introduced in 1928 and required special filters on the camera and the projector. Without the filters they were black and white. So are they original Kodacolor? The website says colorized so it's up to interpretation.

You're correct. I never looked at the actual website for the series, itself...just the Smithsonian Channel website as a whole.

I wonder if in each episode, they tell viewers which parts are colorized and which parts are original footage. I can't remember from other episodes I've watched.

Being honest, knowing some parts are colorized takes some of the pleasure out of it for me. Oh, well...
