What is the best defensive ammo ? THANKS

I can't tell you what the "Best" defensive ammo is, but I have opted for the Hornady Critical Defense ammo for both my 9mm and 40 S&W.
You may have opened a can of worms asking for the "Best".

My vote is for any round that allows the gun to function reliably.

I know self defense ammo is pricy but honestly as Rastoff stated the ammo that functions the best in your firearm. Saying that stick to name brand ammunition and not someone's one off reloads that are loaded hot.

Speer Gold Dot 180gr.

That's what they give us at work for the FS M&P, I shoot it well in my duty weapon.
In my Shield I have better luck with the 165 gr Gold Dots.

A can of worms, indeed. HST, Gold Dot, DPX, Critical Defense/Duty are all well-considered.

I prefer gold dots in 155 or 165gr. I like and use underwood ammo as the ammo spec are spot on and price is very good for a premium ammo. Buy during holiday sales and there no shipping charge with orders
I get just over 1300fps from 155gr loads in a 4.25" barrel and feels no different from cheap slow big box ammo or my reloads to me or may timer .
