I went to wally- mart today to look at some ammo prices and they were all but cleaned out. I mean the cupboards were virtually bare except for some .22 and other rifle ammo and a few scattered boxes of various calibers. They have been low on ammo since Christmas. I was wondering if other wally marts were the same? I know ammo is getting more expensive but I am finding it harder to get in any kind of bulk quantities. Even some of the on-line ammo depots seem to be "Out of Stock" on a lot of 380, 9mm and .45ACP in bulk 250, 500 and 1000 round bricks. What gives?

Yesterday my wife and I went to Wal-Mart. I took the opportunity to cruse through the Sporting Goods Department. I found plenty of everything on the shelves. They even had .357 Magnum! Prices were the same as I have been seeing since last year.

Surplus 7.62/3.08 is pretty much all gone. 5.56/223 is selling out real fast. Seems like 2008 again. Happens every 4 years now since Clinton. Ammo dealers must sell more ammo in the 6 months leading up to a Presidential election than the 3 1/2 years prior.

Actually I just ordered bulk 9mm and.45 from a different web store than I usually use. they seemed to be well stocked. i usually use C. Than D. They have been out of stock on a lot of stuff. But I have to believe it is going to get scarcer between now and Nov.

I'm trying to find some .357 SD ammo online and evidently it's now made of unobtanium.

What's up with that?

I do not mean to ring the panic alarm but I was told by one of my long time LGS owners that the 'hoarder mentality' has already started. They are having trouble laying in ammo which just a year ago had started to flow. I was warned that '08 was starting up again.
I'm planning on getting around 500 rnds of .380, one of the only calibers I do not reload for and a couple K of primers in each type. I've got plenty of brass, bullets etc and cast so what may be coming won't slow me down but it just doesn't make sense.
Best case scenario is to get out your checkbook and dig deeper, worst is just plain unavailabilty.
I hope I'm wrong but really don't feel that way.

Midway has the 125 grain hp load made by Black Hills in the 50 round boxes . They use the XTP bullet in their ammo . That ought to stop zombies and goblins breaking into your house .

WalMart, at least around here, is switching over from Winchester to Remington. In the process of this switchover, they were sold out of a lot of stuff because (this was how it was told to me) they could not get any more new Winchester stuff and they had not gotten their new (replacement) Remington stuff yet. They also are phasing out what little Federal stuff they stocked, which for me was just dirty 158gr lead ball ammo.

Good riddance on the Winchester white box ****, dirty ammo, which really dont make a huge difference for revolvers, but for autos, it's less than ideal.

You list yourself as being NE Ohio which leads me to believe that you're probably in the Cleveland area. If so, so yourself a favor and take a drive to Fin, Feather, and Fur. You'll find that they not only beat Walmart on ammo prices but they have isles stacked head high with ammo. Last time I was visting my brothers I hit Fin Feathre & Fur before heading back to Michican and loaded up with 20 boxes of 45 ACP Champion and 20 Boxes of 40 caliber champion and didn't even make a small dent in their stock. At a pure guess I think that they must have had at least 200 CASES of these two calibers in just one isle. I can also tell you that their prices on firearms are also pretty darned good, however the line to purchase can get pretty long on the weekends. Below is a link to their web site.

I went to a WalMart in NVA today looking for .38 - none. Plenty of 9mm, .380 & .40.

the closest walmart to me seems to be ok on ammo supply. however i like to buy the 100 rounds for 19.95 for 9mm federal ammo for the range and 9 times out of 10 they dont have it. the other walmart 15 minutes from me usually has it though.

No shortage here in CA but the forums are buzzing and I expect we will cause our own shortage shortly.

There are more ammo out there than I can afford to buy.
Even my LGS had a sale on Fed 9mm 50ct for $9+ a few weeks ago.

In south east Florida, the popular calibers sell out generally within an hour or two at the most of when they are put on the shelves. My advice is to befriend the counter person, find out when the delivery's come, and try and be there shortly afterwards. Last year, that was the only way to get .380 ammo, you had right about an hour or less of it being put out on the shelves. 26

Huntington Beach, Ca. WalMart has a good supply recently. They did a very good job stocking up; the shelves were thin for a while. I did take the time to thank the sporting goods manager for the diligent job!
