Ammo Smuggling…..South Bound

Mexican nationals arrested while transporting 180,000 rounds of ammunition from Utah to Colorado

FYI. Interesting……….i would have thought that volume on ammo, apparently purchased in one location (report implied but not confirmed ) would have raised a question or two……

I just read that article about an hour ago. Lots of missing info IMO. The part about looking at vehicles, then just stopping in a gun shop and purchasing that amount of ammo sounds really fishy. Who would even have that much .308 and 7.62x39 on hand?

Not sure if my math is correct, but wouldn’t that be somewhere around 4,500-5,000 lb.? And it looks like a regular sized van, not a box truck. That has to be nearly triple the weight capacity. It says they failed to dim their lights for the detectives. They probably didn’t have their brights on, it just seemed like it with that much weight making the lights aim higher.

Good work, officers.

1000 rounds of .308 is around 50lbs.
so I'm thinking maybe closer to 4 tons of ammo.
either way, definitely over weight for that vehicle.

Agree, the whole story sounds questionable…..and incomplete ….Another fine example of our msm doing a stellar job of reporting…..

If it furthers the anti gun folks agenda the truth or facts do not matter. Only feelings matter.

With the new 6.5% excise tax on ammunition and pretty much anything else related to firearms, expect to see quite a bit of out of state purchases and into state importatioms. Now as to the intended end user(s) of these rounds, that's the rest of the story we'd like to know.

Since Mexican nationals were involved, I got the impression that the ammo was headed, eventually, into Mexico. I realize that the article doesn’t say that - directly………just my impression.

That looks like PRVI ammo...about $89k worth... So if purchased from one dealer did they pay cash or use a CC....I'm figuring cash. And if the dealer didn't immediately call ATF or the FBI he's probably going to have some explaining to do....

If they had just said they were living in Texas it would have been understandable. I have heard that what they had would have been a good weekend in Texas.

Picked up from factory ? warehouse ?
100k cash deal ? 75k ?
