No, I don't mean free samples… I mean as in a few of several offerings from a manufacturer to test in a gun to see what the gun favors. It doesn't matter if I want to like the new Hornady Critical Defence ammo if my gun doesn't shoot very accurate with it. Maybe your gun favors a lighter or heavier bullet than you would expect. It would just be nice to have the option of buying a sample pack from say Winchester, Federal, Remington, Speer, and the other big names with their current offerings instead of having to buy a twenty count box of dollar a trigger pull ammo. My 637 needed a new frame and it also came home with a new barrel. Does it still favor Federal 110 gr Hydra Shok? If not I don't really feel like spending a few hundred bucks to find what this new barrel prefers. Autos are even worse. The Ruger LCP didn't like the Federal Hydra Shok, but after trying three other brands I settled on Golden Saber .380 ammo. Funny thing is the Bersa Thunder .380 likes the Fed Hydra Shok but will sometimes stove pipe jam with the Golden Sabers. So I think it would be easier on the wallet to buy two or three sample packs for an initial function testing and the start of an accuracy test. I would think at least three of each type but five would be better.
