The April of 1969 issue of Guns & Ammo featured a quintet of American revolvers on its cover. Two of the companies, High Standard and Harrington & Richardson, are now all but history. Colt and Smith & Wesson have survived, although they've undergone changes in ownership. Ruger is the one that's come through the years whole and is in fact celebrating its Diamond Jubilee this year (or 75th Anniversary to be precise).
One notable omission on this cover was Charter Arms, which at the time was a new kid on the block (being founded in 1964). Charter Arms also had to shut its doors in 1998, but was later resurrected and resumed production up to the present day. An even more recently formed company at the time was Dan Wesson, which also has subsequently seen multiple owners, today operating as a subsidiary of CZ-USA.
