I really fell hard for the recoil absorbing grips found on the 460 and 500 magnums after shooting an 8 3/8 460 my dad has. so of course I learn on this forum how many of you have put those grips on your own revolvers.

obviously I had to get me a set of these for my 329pd. they feel great and reduce recoil? yes please. tried ordering from the smith and wesson website and couldn't since it said they can't verify my address. all right then, I'll call them up. talked to a nice lady who said she'd put me in touch with the guy to talk to about ordering. when I tell him what I want he replies "didn't we just go through this? " I tell him this is the first time I've called since 2011. "oh I just talked to a guy about this 5 minutes ago " he says. he then tells me those grips shouldn't be on their site and that there was nothing he could do to help me.

Anyone else try buying some recently and run into problems? can't help myself here, but he said they were only available on 460 and 500 magnums. he even called them "exclusive" so I picture the grips sitting in a little vip section with a bouncer and velvet rope.

by the way, love my new 329. murdochs had a 10% off sale for memorial day so I ended up getting it for $903. no tax, gotta love montana for that : )

I bought a 500 and yes the grips are the Hogue Tamer grips exclusive to S&W. Hogue won't sell them to anyone else. So when I got my 329, those 500 grips immediately went on it for shooting!!

Then I called S&W parts and ordered two more sets and got them in a week, this was 10/21/2010. I don't know what's going on now.

I'm reading off my receipt:

Inventory Location #I05E
Product SKU Code # 294670000
Description: XFR Hogue Tamer
Price $36.76

Why wouldn't he sell them to you, your dad has the "exclusive" guns they're made for? He's playing games.

You or your dad can play the 'game' with him too, and order a "spare set" for his guns. Grips do get a little worn looking sometimes and one should be able to get a new set! Use the part # above and use your dad's serial #s to give him if that's the game.

Good luck and let us know how you or your dad make out.

that's what I was thinking. next time I talk with my dad I'll ask him to call them up and tell them some tale. thanks for digging out your receipt.

I've mounted the X Frame Hogues on almost all of my current round butt K, L and N frames. I've worn out 3 or four of those grips and I don't own an X Frame. Stocked up figuring the way S&W changes stuff they wouldn't be always be available. Never had a problem ordering them from S&Ws online store -- here's the link:

Product: Model 500 Impact Absorbing Hogue Square Butt Conversion Grips

Email your dad (or direct him to this thread/post) with the above link and get him to order you a set.

FWIW,

Paul

thanks paul, that's the plan so far. you live in montana right? where about? I'm right off hwy 2 about 6 miles from the west entrance to glacier park.

Confused here.
Had always believed that the X-Frame revolvers had the same grip frame size as the K/L Frames.
If that was actually the case, would these grips then not fit the larger N-Frame?

1. The earliest RB N frames have 'true N size’ RB grip frames which only have a lower butt size of the K/L RBs. They’re stocks will correctly fit the N frame knuckle behind the hammer and are the correct width across the medallion area, of N frames with square butt grip frames. This grip frame shape was used on the 3" Models 24-3 and 624 as well as a few other earlier RB N frames like the limited production "Heritage" Model 44 Spl (with rib-less barrel) which also had RB grips of true N frame size.

2. The later N frame RB guns, after the RB became standard on N frames, 1995-96, all seem to have the N frame RB grip frames as well. For example, the Model 329 air-weight 44 Mag (2003) also has the N frame RB butt grip frame. The X frame 500 Mag RB size across the medallion area and at the knuckle is clearly a K/L frame RB grip frame. However the 500 Hogue "Tamer" rubber grips with Sorbatane will fit the 329, 24-3, 624, 610, 625, 325 Nighthawk and other N frame size grip frames because they cover the backstrap and are stretchy. This and other information I had received led me, for one, to believe there were also K/L size RB grip frames on N frame models. With additional input, it now appears there are not. The only other RB models with full K/L size RB grip frame are the X frame 500/460 Mags.

I just called & asked if the PN# was available. They didn't ask what I wanted to put them on. However, things went wrong:

Last fall, when they were out of stock, I'd call every week to see if they were available yet (my on-line order was cancelled, without notice) and they don't accept orders for back-ordered items. They finally were available so I ordered (2) X-grips & (1) rear sight.

Never got any confirmation order email. Did receive an email from Fed-Ex with the tracking# & scheduled delivery date. The package never came. Fed-Ex tracking showed it was undeliverable & was returned to sender.

Called S&W C/S & found out they shipped (3) grip & (0) rear sights. Also found out they entered my address wrong on the order. Told them to Cancel that order & submitted a new (second) order for the right parts. They wouldn't give me a credit back for the first order until their warehouse showed it received there (even though Fed-Ex showed it returned), so had to pay again for the second order.

The second order came about ten days later in two shipments because the sight was warehoused in MA & the grips in KY. Never got an order confirmation or tracking because they entered my name wrong on the second order (correct on the first).

It took an additional month to receive my credit for the first order & that was only after several calls to the Return Dept. as the warehouse never entered it as received.

While this time was a bad experience I recall another time I called looking for a small $3 part & they asked how many I needed & sent them to me no charge. :)

You have to take the good with the bad sometimes.

The short answer is that they stretch.

Once fitted to an N-frame, they will be loose on the smaller X/K/L frames.

I've ordered and received two of them, the last probably about three months ago. It took two or three weeks to receive them, but they did show up. I hope they haven't quit supplying them.
