For anyone who's followed my hunt for a very good condition 1st. Mod. DA in .44 Russian, I have finally come close to exactly what I was looking for. The looney gun laws up here in the Great White North limit me to an antique pistol as the only legal bush carry handgun. Some trappers and prospectors have been able to get carry permits for wilderness work, but the hoops you have to jump through are a bureaucratic nightmare. I picked this one up and I'm well pleased. Condition is excellent, for it's age. The chambers are very clean and the bore only shows slight rippling and evidence of black powder usage. Mechanics are very tight and it functions well in half-cock and single and double action though the springs are very tight. It requires a lot of force to pull the trigger in double action and a serious pull to get it into single action. The price was very decent (for up here) since the collector value was deemed less due to the custom foresight and staghorn grips. The pictures don't show well, but the trigger guard and barrel latch are still in the blue so I believe it to be a factory nickel job. All the serial numbers match, another plus. Any thoughts or input from you gentlemen is most welcome.
