Indy 500-winning car owner Andy Granatelli dies at 90 - ESPN
Andy Granatelli, the former CEO of STP motor oil company who made a mark on motorsports as a car owner, innovator and entrepreneur, has died. He was 90.

Andy and Mario were a great team. I got to see them racing way back when I was a little kid.
Rest peacefully sir.

And now with Michael Schumacher in a coma due to a skiing accident. Well that makes for a sad end to 2013 for race fans, like me.

Andy was one of the last great showmen. I remember one year at Indy, he had his Lear Jet pilot buzz down the main straightaway to announce his arrival in town.

It was hard not to notice a Lear jet with a huge STP stick on the underside of the jet flying at 200 feet!

Reportedly when the Lear landed, the FAA either pulled the pilots ticket or fined him heavily.

Anyway, EVERYBODY knew Andy Granatelli was here.

When we were kids, just about the coolest sticker you could have was an STP sticker.

First race I ever saw in person was the 1968 Trenton 200. Art Pollard drove one of the turbine cars. It was the most amazing race car I've ever seen. Miss those days.
