Hi guys I am new here so bare with me on my forum etiquette. I am a new gun owner and looking for a good ankle holster. Two obstacles that I have run into are 1. most m&p ankle holsters seem to be made for 9/.40 and 2. I am looking for a left handed draw.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

ankle rigs in general suck, and the pros only use them as a last ditch effort to pack a piece.
the weight at the end of a limb is rather cumbersome.
rigs that put your gun somewhere between above the thigh and below the neck avoid this issue.

Check Renegade ankle holsters, there might be one to fit. I use one with small revolvers and it's the best fitting/wearing ankle holster I've had.

Unlike some I don't have a problem with ankle holsters if that's what works for a given situation, I wear one several days a week because nothing else will work. That being said, I would think that an M&P Compact .45, while being relatively small, is going to be rather heavy and cumbersome for ankle carry. The guns that carry best that way are small and light, they're more comfortable and don't affect your walk as much.

Ditto. Great for sub pound guns. Here's a Renegade for the j-frame. And don't forget shoes.

good info

thank for the info guys, I am definitely going to look into the renegade ankle holsters. I know it is a large gun to be carrying on my ankle but I am often wearing casual pants without belts. Would an IWB holster be the next best option for heavy concealment? If so what brands would you recommend? Thanks again for helping someone who is new to all of this.

the crossbreed holsters work well for me. Rather than the belt loops common to IWB's these feature clips designed the latch onto the belt but dont really seem to care if a belt is there or not.
its my go to rig.
Id also recommend looking at other rigs as well.
After a while you can see how they "work" for lack of a better word, and fit them into various modes of dress.
your probably going to end up with a few different rigs.

Ankle holsters are good for deep concealment, but are poor in terms of ease of draw, comfort, and walking in inclement weather (snow, rain/puddles). They do "show" sometimes while seated, driving etc. and are only practical with fairly loose bottom pants. In short, not the best carry method for a primary CCW IMHO; but acceptable for a BUG.

I wholeheartedly agree....

KeyIron, since the Renegade is not molded leather, it is much more concealable then other ankle holsters...you can wear a j-frame with just about any pants...the ones pictured are straight leg (not boot cut) Wranglers and the gun doesn't print at all. I would stick with IWB though for the M&P and pick up a j for ankle...for IWBs, check out lobo gun...I have one of his for my P2000 and it works great.

I agree. Been using them for decades. Best ankle holster ever. I used to come home from work and forget that I was wearing it until I went to bed. It's that comfortable, at least with a lightweight gun in it.

And while it may not be the best for primary carry, if you practice a bunch, you'd be surprised how fast you can draw from it. Seated, for example, it's faster than a lot of belt or iwb rigs. And during a robbery, etc., most crooks wouldn't think to look for it.

Didn't see your original post. I would strongly suggest you give up on the idea of an ankle rig for your M&P .45. Carrying close to two and a half pounds on your ankle would be ridiculous. Ankle rigs are for tiny, lightweight guns.

Galco Ankle Glove is a very comfortable ankle holster. I have used one for my BUG for many years. It is not a fast draw holster and may not be ideal for a M&P 45. I have an M649 in mine. Sometimes I carry in a Galco belly band.
