Does anyone have any experience with wearing an ankle holster with a 649 357mag? Before I purchase one I'd like opinions on comfort etc.
thx

I carry the steel mod 36 in an ankle rig all the time- the two keys to this are :
1) get a good holster- my fav is Alessi and it will cost over 100 bucks- but I have been using the same one for 20+years
2) practice draw techniques alot- find a method that works for you and practice about 500 or so draws- you'll be amazed how fast they really can be- I am often challenged on they are slow, clumsy etc. But when doing apples to apples comparison with a properly concealed belt holster I can draw a gun from an ankle rig just as fast as most people using a belt rig.

I did it for several years with no real issues. Ankle carry is not for everyone, but after that awkward "getting use a weight on my leg" period, it was fine. I stopped because of a PAD diagnoses, but it worked fine, within the limitations inherent to ankle carry.

Reminds me, I should get rid of my ankle rigs someday ;)

I use a S&W 649 in an ankle holster and love it. I went with the micarta VZ grips for the J-Frame and they don't catch on levis or dress pants. I'm use to the weight and use a Kramer ankle holster. The holster works over duty boots or with dress shoes. The key to comfort is a good holster. While I love the Kramer, the $50 Galco COP ankle holster with the $20 boot extender does the job just as well for those on a budget.
