Oak mites.
They are expanding, they layt eggs in oak leaves and fall off, being almost microscopic the wind can carry them for miles.
The bit is very itchy and seems like a chigger bite. Being under an Oak tree right now in the KC area can and will get your upper torso lit up. Mrs M 70 and I went to our Grandsons 3rd B'day in Shawnee Mission Ks. We and all were bit many times.
Research Oak Mite in KC. They are expanding to other states.
And Deet products don't help.
