Another Factory Engraved Gun

While not as exciting as the Triplelock that came in the show today (at least to me) This old Safety Hammerless came in the show also. I am pretty sure it was in Tulsa in October but it didnt have a letter at the time. Well I couldnt say no to this one.
the leather Satchel/purse is reported to be from the factory and was shipped with the gun.
Mr Jinks says in the letter that it shipped with Checkered Pearl grips, I would think the checkered part is an error, but I am not sure. Anybody ever seen checkered Pearls?

I would agree - the grips would not have been checkered pearl !
Those grips look to fit just right, so I am reasonably sure that they
are the original grips.

I believe I looked at that gun at Tulsa. I like it, and the "purse". Neat package.
I believe the grips are original, and I, too, think the "checkered" part is a typo.

Smith & Wesson did supply checkered pearl grips on special guns. The S&W Single shot pistols presented to Annie Oakley have checkered pearl grips,& gold plating & engraved. The design is exactly the same as the checkered hard rubber grips. I have 1/2 a pair in my S&W grip collection. Oakley's guns are the only ones I ever seen with factory checkered pearls, however for a price S&W would make you anything you could afford. Whether this Safety Hammerless came shipped originally with checkered pearls, I don't know, but if that's what the shipping records/invoice says, it could be. Ed.

Wow, Ed thanks for the info, I can't imagine the job of checkering these pearls, it had to be a tedious job with the problems caused by flaking layers of the pearl. I have drilled medallions into pearl before and that was scary enough for me.
We missed your presence at the show. hope you came through the Weather unscathed.
