I've been eyeballing my buddy's gun for a while and he finally had a weak moment so I had to jump fast. I didn't want to give him time to come to his senses. :D I had to do a little re-arranging to make room for it in the safe but I was able to squeeze it in. There's a Fastfire III on the way to the house as I plan on adding this one to my regular shooters. (I suck using open sights:mad:) No box so best I can figure the ship date was 1996 with a CBJ serial number prefix.
I did get it to the range last week for a test drive and am very pleased with how it runs.
Thanks for looking y'all.

And here's the obligatory dirty gun pic.

Nice gun! You know what's coming next

My 629-4s. The one up front is a CBC prefix

I'm gonna guess you're right about the 1996 ship date, not too much longer they started with the mim parts

It may make you sad, Dieseltech56, but the "new" style cylinder releases shown above are MIM. I think that part was one of the first MIM bits utilized by S&W.
Not that I care, as long as they shoot precisely and reliably, which MIM doesn't seem to hurt at all.

BTW, if I ever saw an 8 3/8" "half lugged" barreled 29-6 or 629-4 for sale, I'd likely throw funds at it! (Provided it passes the usual inspection....)

Congratulations! I believe the -4's just might be the best of all 629's since they have the endurance package but they don't have MIM or locks. I carry a -4 and like it almost as well as my 57's. You going to scope it?

Congratulations! Another 1 for your pool table! Bob

Mine didn't come cheap (1200), my friend who owns the LGS held it in the vault until I came in because he knew I wouldn't be able to resist it! Of course he was correct. I have a bit more into it now. This is what it looked like before the changes.

Nice gun. I had the blued version called the "Hunter", it had integral dovetail slots in the barrel and rings for a scope. I never scoped it but used it for deer hunting. Killed a nice buck with it but it was just too heavy for a shoulder holster so I put it back in the safe and never used it again. I eventually traded it even up for a brand new Ruger SR1911 .45 but I still have my 4" model 29.

I have the 629-3 version of your Hunter model with the barrel broached for scope rings. (no scope rings though)

I have a fondness for the standard lug 8 3/8" barrels. They're much more manageable than the full lug Classics. I wanted this gun in particular because it's the dash 4 model.

OldChief, the Culinas really make your gun shine. Culinas have that tendency. ;) IrishFritz, I won't be scoping this one but will be mounting a red dot.

Thanks for the comments gentlemen.

Yes I did know that come to think of it. I was thinking more like mim hammer, trigger, rebound slide etc.

I probably shouldn't mention my 29s either. The one in the back is a -6 square butt

Matt, I was lucky enough to come across a square butt 29-6 too.
Turned out to be a fine shooter.

The 8 3/8 standard barrel guns are my favorites. Guys like us are the reason you rarely see any for sale.

I always wanted a full underlug gun and when I got the other transitional 629-4 in my picture I felt like I was "settling" for something I didn't want.....that is until I shot it. It was easily the most accurate revolver I ever shot at the time.

I was going to get the Culinas in walnut but Jennifer suggested the maple and she sure knows what looks good on which finish.

That's a sweetheart
Tinknocker
Should be easy to thread onto the 4' prop rod
:D
I know you'll enjoy it
Hopefully everything is going good down there and thanks for the great pics
