Another M&P backstrap question (sorry guys)

I have a full-size M&P 9 and I love everything about it except the fat grip panels.

Does anyone know if anyone offers thinner replacement backstraps (no silly bulge on the sides)?

Any chance someone might be willing to stipple them if I grind them down to a slimmer profile?

Front to back, the stock backstraps feel great. I just wish that they had skipped the palm swell on the sides.

Thanks,

Marley

I doubt anybody but S&W makes M&P inserts, not enough market.
I'd be leery of removing material from the sides on them, but it's your call.

The backstraps are relatively inexpensive so there's no great harm done of you thin one down and go too far. I don't see much, if any, "bulge" in the Small backstrap; the Large is noticeably fatter.

Looking at the Medium backstrap right now, there's just not much material thickness to work with.
I think if you tried to thin those walls out enough to make any significant difference in how the grip feels in your hand, you'd probably end up having to order a replacement from S&W.

And I agree with Chuck, the Small has very little palmswell. Probably the best you can realistically hope for.

Maybe try the large with the thickness reduced to that of the small if you like the front to back dimension.

Order extra from MidwayUSA. I got 3 extra and filed one down. Still working on it. :D I got a brown for my 45 and can tell them apart. :)

Do you not have the small and medium grip panels ??? Every gun comes with a small, medium and large panel.

I find with my bear paws (yes large hands, I'm not called Bigfoot for nothing :) ) I still used the medium grip panel.

Well that was until I bought the Crimson Trace grips for both my M&P 40 FS and compact, CT says there grip are just alittle bigger then the medium.

I find I like the CT grip the best.

I'm the same way. I like the front to back dimensions of the large but could do without the palmswells. Unfortunately, I'm not handy so a home customization is unlikely. Maybe someday, a company will introduce some different sizes.

M&P palmswell

Dare I say, maybe try running it nekkid..... no palmswell???
Just a thought.........

I was thinking that you could try it this way.

Remove the grip and get one of the grip sleves, put just the sleve on the gun and try it that way.

It may work, not sure.

Palmswell...

Any luck running it w/o p/s?
I have owned a FS 9mm for 4 years and haven't had a glitch.
I have small/med hands and the small palmswell works for me.
Sometimes I just put the medium one on for a while, just for kix.
I always go back to the small p/s.

I also think that using the smallest backstrap and adding a slip on grip would be the best solution for your grip problems. I didn't like the way the Glock 21 fit in my hand so I bought a 21sf and added a slip on grip. Now it is one of the most comfortable guns I shoot. I made the mistake of adding a grip to my Sigma & it is the most comfortable grip I've ever held. I never wanted to make my Sigma the gun that I like to hold the most, but it happened.:o

Remove the backstrap, run it without.

You might want to apply some grip tape where the side panels used to be, wont add any thickness since it is indented at that area. This will allow a good grip on the gun and allow those with small hands to comfortably reach the trigger.
