Just purchased a M&P Sport II and am planning on installing a red dot on it. Suppose to pick it up this Friday.

Problem I have is that I also was considering adding a Streamlight to the setup. From what I can tell the gun comes only with a top rail which the red dot would occupy.

So my question is. Is it better to get a new handguard with a rail on the bottom or get a side mount for the streamlight?

Thanks for any input

Your decision. The stock Sport rail does allow for accessories on the sides and bottom, but you have to have the correct mounts to attach to the rail. It's really your choice but it may be easier if you replace the stock rail with a drop in quad rail or Magpul MOE rail, then you can mount all kinds of stuff to it.

There's a lot of options here. For starters, you could simply buy rails to attach to the factory handguard, either on top or bottom, these rails come pretappered to generally match the tapper of the handguard.

The only rifle I installed a light on, I used the Magpul MOE handguard, and bought the magpul MOE handguard light mount (you buy it either right or left hand, your choice). It tucks the light in nice and tight next to the Front Sight Post.

Just piddle around with a quad rail type and mounting the light on the side of it, makes the light stick out quite a bit, didn't care for that configuration.

Wait to buy a handguard until you see if you like that A2 sight in the window of the red dot. That may dictate what type of handguard you get that can accommodate a front folding sight or not.

Try this light setup ...
