Antique pearl handled .22 long rifle

Hello everyone, I am visiting this forum after recently inheriting my fathers gun collection. I do not know much about guns. I have one in particular that I believe to be very valuable because there was a note attached to it saying so. It was given to my father by his great grandfather so its definitely very old. The handle is pearl. The serial number is preceded by a K. I am trying to determine the value to decide if I want to sell it. I am a teacher and am struggling to support my family after my husband was injured and lost his job. Any advice is appreciated.

Hard to tell from pictures, & it seems everyone has a different opinion, but based on what I can see, it appears to be a 22 Combat Masterpiece (model 18), or possibly a model 17 that has had the barrel cut. Condition appears to be about 75%, & I believe the grips are plastic (fake pearl). Based on what I can see, I would place value at about $250.00. It may not be as old as you think, either. With a little more info, it can be pinned down, but it doesn't really matter much in the condition it's in. My opinion only!

Clearer photos of both sides would help determine condition and condition is everything.It appears to be a model 18 or a pre 18. If you post the serial number and replace the last 2 digits with xx,we can give you an age too.

Welcome to the Forum.
The front sight is wrong for a Combat Masterpiece, they have a ramp front sight, that is a target sight. If you open the cylinder, inside the crane, where the joint is where it swings out there might be a number. It would say Mod- and then possibly a 17 or 18. Look there and tell us what it says. If it is older than 1957 it won't have that. It would then be what we call a "Pre" model revolver. You just say it has a K in the serial number, which is on the bottom of the butt. Give us more of the number. You can xx out the last few to keep it private, but then we can tell you how old it is.
It's really nice to know the family history of the revolver. I hope for your sake you don't need to sell it, but if you do you should get a fair price on here.
Oh, one more thing, don't be afraid to shoot it. That's what it was made for, and K-22s are a lot of fun.

Time frame, by the hammer, is late 40s, early 50s, and I agree, the target front sight would indicate replacement or a cut barrel. Value around here, $350, maybe $400. Please keep us posted.

$350-400? Really? From the hammer, I too suspect it's a pre model number gun. From the front sight & I believe the stamping is not centered, probably a cut barrel. Appears there is very little finish left, & non original grips. With all that I thought I was being optimistic at $250.

My guess agrees with those saying a cut down K22 Masterpiece (became the Model 17 in 1957 but this gun is older). Looks refinished. Value is as a "shooter" and I would guess (all anyone can do) at around $300 or so. A nice original gun can be found for $500 or so meaning a modified gun will bring much less.

Wish we here had better news about the value, but $300-$350 would be max in my area. It appears the barrel was cutdown, the finish isn't the best, and the grips are non-factory and are probably imitation pearl.

Sorry about your situation. I always encourage folks to hang onto family guns, if possible. I only have one and it's spot in the safe reserved until I'm gone and then it goes to another family member.
