I'm learning a little about the 610. Just wondering if the equivalent was ever produced in a blued version. Thanks.

ETA: Not talking about the Night guard 310's,

Thanks all. Sorry John, I was really meaning within the S&W line. Shoulda been more specific. My bad.

Ruger produced convertible Blackhawk revolvers with cylinders in 10mm and 38-40. These revolvers were blued.

A RARE bird John - thanks for sharing!! A dealer special from Buckeye Sports and Ruger[thanks to a Google search]. I wasn't aware of this piece.

10mm revolvers

Hello,
No, Smith has never made a blued-steel equivalent to the 610; when the model 610 was introduced, it was conceived of as a hunting/sporting weapon, and the greater rust-resistance/easier finish maintenance of stainless led Smith to conceive the gun as a stainless model. Smith was also in the process of slowly phasing out all non-stainless revolver models at that time, so it would have made no sense, from a business standpoint, to produce the same gun in carbon steel. Yes, blued guns can be very pretty, but without much more customer demand, it is highly unlikely that there will ever be a blued equivalent to the 610. I currently own six model 610s, in barrel lengths from 3" to 6 1/2", and I enjoy them all. I don't really see any need for a blued version.

There's the 310..., but I think what you are asking is the full-size blue equivalent, which if it existed would be (I'm guessing) the "510?" :) That would be a nice revolver.

In the 1980s I thought that the 10mm was going to be the service and self-defense cartridge of the future. My prediction didn't turn out to be very accurate, because the 10mm is today primarily a curiosity.
That was a result of too much 'affirmative action', as the 10mm in factory load was way to powerful for 'small framed' individuals to handle. The Guvment experimented with reduced loads, but by that time S&W introduced the .40 S&W, which is a cut down version of the 10mm. And even then, most of the 'law enforcement' rounds are 135gr loads.

...Sorry... Back to my whiskey and lemonade....

Edit: I'm actually salivating over a couple S&W 610's on GB right now...
