I have an old win. m12 skeet that I shoot, would like a 1oz. load. I have a bunch of w/w hulls and sp16 rem wads, 209 primers...do you think 18-19 grs. unique would get me in trouble?...old gunsmith used to use 11/8 with 19gr unique cci209.....asking around and most guys look at you like you're nuts!:D

I load 16 ga and have for a number of years. In the Lyman 5th addition manual on shot shell loading, it says-
Win plastic cases with plastic base wad ( non compression formed)
Win 209
Unique 21.0 grains
Rem SP16
One ounce shot
1271 velocity
8700 psi

I reload 2 1/2 16 Gauge exclusivity for my 16s, and for targets and birds I settled on Green Dot.

With the Win AA hull, Rem SP wad and a I oz. set up........

your Unique at 19 grs will be around 1165fps and you might try
Unique at 19.5 grs with that wad for around 1220fps.

Try #9's for skeet and close trap with #8's and if you ever do long rang
trap shooting or handicap, I advise the use of 7 1/2's lead for maximum energy to break the birds.

The i6 Ga. is sweet and will get the job done at the 16 yard line.

As mentioned Green Dot might work as well as other wads, when you run out of the SP's.
Each wad sits and holds the 1 oz. of pellets a little differently whin
can change the crimp with the amount of pellet & powder used in your loads.
Don't turn your nose up at the light 1150fps loads, either.
With the right choke, they will "Smoke" a bird with the correct lead and get you on to a double, faster than a heavier load.
I only use a 1200fps load for shooting in high winds or Field work.
The Win. M12 is a great shotgun.......
as long as the rear wood stock is the proper length for you.
I out grew my M12 410 stock from 12 years of age and at 50 years old
the old stock had me shooting three feet low on one Dove outing!! Going from 100 pounds up to 250, can change things.

Have fun.
