Hey Guys,
Anyone here load for the 6.5mm-06?I just scored a a rebarreled Ruger 77 stainless in a Hogue overmolded stock, medium weight barrel Fajen made I believe. It'll be a few months before I can get it out of layaway. Then there is Optics and then load developement.Any hints on which brass is is easier to resize/form .25-06,.270 or 30-06.I mainly think I'll be shooting 140 grain Nosler BT or Hornady SSTs.Any powder reccomendations, tips, tricks or personal experiences with this old wildcat will be appreciated.
thank you in advance,

Yes, I've been shooting one for quite a while. Mine is a Remington 700 with a Hart SS competetion barrel. I bought it already converted and I only had to replace the stock with a glass McMillan to complete it.

My barrel has a 1 in 9 twist, so it favors 120g NBT and I've also loaded 125 and 140 grain Noslers in BT and Partition. 160 grain tend to tumble, but I've got some experimentation to do and I believe they can be made to shoot just as well.

I'll get down to the reloading bench and look up the loads and get back with info.

As to reforming brass, I tend to like 30-06 and 280, but I have @ 100 custom specific cases that came with the rifle, so I only formed to see if it would work - and it did.

Good cartridge! 6.5-06 mimics the ballistic trajectory of 7mm mag and when it hits, it's the Hammer of Thor. Kind of like a 7mm w/o the harsh recoil. I'm NOT saying it's as powerful, of course it's not, but it does have similarities.

I had a Rem 700 rebarreled from 30-06 to 25-06 years ago for shooting prairie dogs. I used range pickup brass for reloading / reforming. Winchester, Remington, and Federal brass all reformed to 25-06 without any problem. I just had to trim to the correct length. I would not reform military brass -- case / neck wall thickness issues. I used H-414 powder with great success, but 34 pounds of powder is real tough on a barrel even if it stainless.
