So I've found the (one?) upside to being an insulin dependent Diabetic. The Shipping containers my insulin gets delivered in make AWESOME ammo storage containers. For those not familiar, these supplies arrived triple wrapped in a airtight foil bag, thick foam cooler (with tight fitting lid) and heavy cardboard box.
Just pack the foil bags with ammo and tape them closed. Then seal the foam cooler with it's lid (and tape if storage is intended to be a long term ).Finally, close the heavy protective box and mark with contents.
Works great if you can get them and beats just throwing the box's out.

In a gun forum dedicated 70% to revolvers - and therefore chock full of older guys - there are probably more than a few who are diabetic :D

Neat way to repurpose the boxes. Like you said, beats the heck out of throwing them away.

We've had discussions in the Lounge about various aspects of diabetes over the years - there are a significant number. I'm type 2, diagnosed just over 10 years ago (with lots of really cool numbers  that meant nothing to me at the time but put me in the hospital for 3 days). I have not been on insulin since the initial period, while other aspects of the pancreas failure were addressed, and am on what I have been told is more or less a starter dose of Metformin. My worst A1C since those early days was 6.7, which frustrated me. I exercise HARD and sort of watch my food.

Should have mentioned, for those of you who arn't getting meds in these box's, it's not hard to find someone who is. I threw thesebox's out for years and nobody wanted them.

p.s.For the record, my last two A1Cs were 6.1 and 6.0 respectively. I'm losing weight all the time and working on having a long and quality retirement. I' m in good shape for the shape I'm in :-)

I use my wifes shoe boxes , for ammo storage .. After a trip to Academy my wife asked me ," when are you going to stop buying ammo ...?"
I told her, when she runs out of shoe boxes!!

Don't forget also..those freezer cold packs in each of those foam boxes. What can you do with all of them. I even got a couple of big ones with the Honey-Baked Ham we bought for our Christmas get together with friends. We just sent freezer jam to my BIL in WVa in one of those styrofoam containers. Still frozen when it got there from Wyoming. . Poor guy..my sister won't make him any home made jam or jelly. I do have primers stored in about 8 of those boxes. Put 5000 in each and tape 'em shut.

NOT THERE YET

Well. I am not there yet, but the Doc said lose weight or you will be. Have dropped 50 LBS so far and trying for20/30 more. Not first on my list, but pretty close, is finding other uses for just about anything. Everything from specimen bottles to doggie treats and dental bones. Even ice tea containers at one point. My daughter gave me a box of the bottles that were not use for drug tests some years back when she work at a emergency clinic. These are 2oz, and I found you can get larger ones on Amazon. Thing is, every time you find some off the wall use for something, they change the packaging or it finds itself discontinued. Never Fails. :( :)

I used them for cold storage. Rarely hot storage, but something temperature related.

Ammo, it goes in Cabela's ammo boxes (big green ones with seals).

Type 1.

I still get my insulin.....

....the old fashioned way, at the corner store. But I'm always on the lookout for packaging ideas for ammo. What works best for me so far is Rubbermaid food containers. They are airtight and strong enough that they don't break up, but are easy enough to tote to the range.

safty

I have been type one since the age of 5 and I am 54. I get my inulin locally so no containers like that but test strip bottles are great for small screws or what ever and there air tight. One thing I would like to touch on is blood glucose levels. If you are diabetic you should check your blood before you even think about loading your gun or drive a car.
