Hello, just found this site and signed up and need some help on choosing a good sling mount for my M&P 15T. Love the rifle! Just got my optics put on today and took to the range. One small issue I'm having is I want to install a sling mount in front of the buffer tube and I've looked online at different sites and read the reviews and most say that they were hard as heck to put on. I'm no gun smith, I'm sure I can go pay someone to put it on, but this is my rifle. Just a single point mount. Any suggestions? Thanks

The castle nut is staked to the end plate. To remove the castle nut you'll have to peen the staking back using a punch, or grind the staking with a Dremel.
Using a good castle nut wrench, you can then break loose the castle nut without damaging the buffer tube threads.
Most likely, you'll need a new castle nut when you reassemble with the new single point sling mount end plate.
Remember that the end plate retains the rear take down pin detent & detent spring. Be careful so that the spring doesn't launch across the room or the little detent falls out & gets lost.
Additional F.Y.I. if you are unaware...
The pistol grip retains the safety detent & safety detent spring. If you ever swap out grips, make sure not to lose that spring & detent.

First AR15, so is it normal to have to do some small construction(grinding) to place one in that position? watched a video on youtube and even the guy making the vid said you wish you had an extra set of hands when reassembling the end plate and the spring(s). I was just wondering if there was a drop in mount that works well on this particular m&p rifle. appreciate the response

I think some people make it harder than it has to be.
I make sure the butt end of the lower is facing up. I set the rear takedown detent spring in the hole. I then slide down the end plate to the point it makes contact with the spring.
I then rotate the castle nut close to the end plate.
I then seat the end plate, making sure the spring doesn't kink. While holding down the end plate with one hand, I snug down the castle nut by hand. Follow up with the castle nut wrench.
Then I use an old screwdriver & hammer to stake the castle nut to the end plate.

Think about the mechanics of it. Your single point sling mount has to support the weight of your rifle while you are static or moving around.
The strongest attachment is the end plate held in place by a staked castle nut.
One caution about single point slings. It gives your rifle a single fulcrum point to swivel on. Move wrong while your hand is off your rifle, and the rifle turns into a swinging nut buster.
I know. I tried out my friends rifle equipped with a single point sling. I almost passed out that day.
The single point sling has its advantages during weak/strong hand transitions and they look cool, but I have a valid aversion to them.

It's ok to laugh. My buddy was laughing so hard he almost passed out himself.
I just do not want a fellow M&P 15 owner to take a nutshot that can be avoided.
If you do go forward with the single point sling, just keep the increased possibility of testicular trauma in mind.

This is what I use on my M&P15...simple to install, plus it has room for spare batteries in the base for my EOTech sight. Look under "Products" at the top of the page and select "SE-2 AR-15 Sling Grip". Two styles to chose from.

That is about what I paid...can't remember exactly. Took me about 10 minutes to install, has a larger trigger guard making it easy to shoot wearing gloves. Great quality and great service from the company.
